Airbnb is all set to acquire California-based startup Troo.ly, which specializes in conducting online background checks. Troo.ly has been helping Airbnb authenticate user identities since 2015 as per the report by Bloomberg.
By analyzing data from public records, social media and other sources, Troo.ly’s technology could help Airbnb track various customer violations, such as side deals between guests and hosts.
Troo.ly’s technology scours search engines, online public records, and social messaging services for information about people. It then tries to determine people’s potential to be troublemakers and displays the information to customers on a digital scorecard, according to its website.
Airbnb spokesperson said, “We look forward to welcoming the Troo.ly team to Airbnb in the coming weeks. We’ll continue working together to better facilitate trust between strangers on, off and across the platform – supporting Airbnb’s overall strategy to create the world where anyone can belong anywhere.”
Troo.ly was founded by a trio of individuals, namely Anish Das Sarma, Savi Baveja, Nilesh Dalvi back in 2014. The company developed an ‘Instant Trust’ technology, which analyzes and keeps track of any individual digital footprint in real-time.
