How to Limit Ad Tracking From Apps and Services on iPhone
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Ad monitoring has helped companies gain a better knowledge of your behaviour, such as your willingness to purchase new things and how you use a specific app or service. Marketers present customised and targeted adverts to entice you to their services once you’ve been effectively monitored. Apple has attempted to combat the global trend of firms snooping on their customers by providing a set of privacy-focused features. You can use them to block ad tracking in applications and services on your iPhone to some extent.

Apple has been actively reducing ad tracking on the iPhone over the past few months. Last year, the Cupertino business unveiled the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) initiative to strengthen user privacy and limit corporations’ ability to track your behaviour. With the release of iOS 14.5 in late April, the feature became available. It also added “nutrition labels” to app listings on the App Store, which tell customers what data an app would access once they install it. Additionally, Apple has enabled the Safari browser to prohibit cookie-based tracking.

We’ll walk you through how to block ad tracking from applications and services on your iPhone in this article.

Before we get started with the steps, it’s worth noting that ad tracking allows developers to help companies track your actions and collect information like your user or device ID, device’s current advertising identifier, name, email address, and other details that help them understand your identity. The built-in functions are accessible on recent iOS versions (iOS 14.5 and later), but you may not be able to use them if your iPhone is running an older iOS version. You can simply skip forward to the following section to learn how to stop Web-based services from tracking your ads.

  • To disable tracking, go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking.
  • Turn off the ‘Allow Apps to Request to Track’ option. This will help you minimise ad tracking from any new applications you install on your iPhone.
  • By scrolling down and turning off each app’s ability to track you, you may now limit tracking on existing applications.

You may also hit Ask App Not to Track on the popup to prevent them from tracking your activities and data in addition to the preceding actions.

  • To block tracking from various Web-based services and websites that you visit using Safari on your iPhone, follow the instructions below.
  • Go to Safari > Settings.
  • Toggle off ‘Block All Cookies’ by scrolling down a little.

Turn on ‘Prevent Cross-Site Tracking’ to prevent advertisers and other third parties from tracking you across websites.

Despite the fact that all of these procedures assist to reduce ad tracking on the iPhone, advertisers and firms that want your personal data frequently develop new ways to follow you and retain your profile for financial motivations. You may further avoid this by disabling Background App Refresh for all installed apps by navigating to Settings > General and then disabling ‘Background App Refresh.’
