Hertz Is Selling Its Model 3s Fleet, Grab Yours Now!

Hertz, a global leader in car rental services, has announced the sale of its fleet of Tesla Model 3s. This move comes after Hertz’s ambitious adoption of EVs, which saw the company integrate a substantial number of Tesla Model 3s into its fleet. However, the decision to sell these vehicles is attributed to high repair costs and frequent damage, a challenge that has become increasingly apparent in the rental car industry.

The sale of these Tesla Model 3s by Hertz marks a unique opportunity for EV enthusiasts and bargain hunters. With prices ranging between $20,000 and $25,000, these vehicles are significantly more affordable than their market counterparts.

Notably, the cars listed on Hertz’s website have odometer readings between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, offering a balance of moderate use and affordability. Additionally, these vehicles are eligible for an IRS used EV tax rebate of $4,000, potentially reducing the cost to as low as $16,500.

Despite concerns about reliability, the Tesla Model 3 has been a popular choice among consumers, known for its impressive performance and range. The Model 3 Standard Range Plus, for instance, is a particularly attractive option at the $16,500 price point, considering its access to Tesla’s Supercharger network and the remaining manufacturer powertrain warranty. This warranty, still effective for another 13,000 miles, adds an extra layer of security for potential buyers.

Comparatively, the cheapest Model 3s available from other sources are priced around $29,000 with lower mileage, highlighting the competitive pricing of the Hertz fleet. Consumer Reports has rated the Model 3 as having average reliability, with current average used prices ranging between $26,000 and $35,000. This data underscores the value proposition of the Hertz Model 3s, making them an appealing option for those seeking an affordable and usable EV.

The Tesla Model 3 has not only made a name for itself in the consumer market but has also emerged as a favorite in the rental car industry. Its popularity among rental customers is attributed to its cutting-edge technology, environmental friendliness, and the unique driving experience it offers.

The Model 3’s specifications, which include advanced autopilot features, a minimalist interior design, and impressive acceleration, have contributed to its status as a highly sought-after rental vehicle.

However, it’s important to note that the decision to sell these vehicles comes with a caveat regarding their condition. The frequent faults and high repair costs associated with these vehicles are factors that potential buyers should consider. Despite this, the opportunity to own a Tesla Model 3 at a significantly reduced price, coupled with the benefits of an EV, makes this an intriguing prospect for many.

Tempting as that Hertz Tesla price tag is, take a tech breather before hitting the gas. Check the battery health report (aim below 10% wear for optimal range), as high mileage (over 80,000) might hint at battery-draining fast charging. Confirm warranty transfer and explore potential software limitations (can you unlock those cool upgrades later?). Expect higher maintenance costs than a new Tesla, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection by a certified mechanic to ensure your bargain becomes a smooth EV ride, not a bumpy headache.

Hertz’s decision to sell its fleet of Tesla Model 3s presents a unique opportunity in the EV market. While the vehicles come with their own set of considerations regarding reliability and condition, the pricing and benefits associated with owning a Tesla make this an attractive option for many. As the EV market continues to evolve, such developments are likely to become more common, offering consumers more choices and better access to sustainable transportation options.
