xAI has introduced its latest AI model, Grok-2, which is gradually being rolled out to premium users on X (formerly Twitter). Unlike other large language models (LLMs), Grok-2 was trained on billions of tweets and had access to real-time data on X, giving it a distinct edge. This unique feature could potentially reshape how users interact on the platform. Keep reading this article to know a list of things Elon Musk’s Grok-2 AI chatbot can do that ChatGPT can’t!

Grok-2 v. ChatGPT

Rowan Cheung, founder of The Rundown, a popular AI newsletter with over 500,000 subscribers, recently gained early beta access to Grok-2. Cheung believes the new AI chatbot has the potential to transform the user experience on X. He highlighted six key features that set Grok-2 apart from competitors like ChatGPT.

1. Real-Time Search Capabilities

One of the things Elon Musk’s Grok-2 AI chatbot can do that ChatGPT can’t perform is real-time searches on X, accessing the latest tweets and trending topics instantly. Grok-2’s ability to perform real-time searches on X gives it a unique advantage. With access to a vast database of content generated by millions of users, Grok-2 can pull data from tweets that are trending or have high engagement. This level of real-time access is something other LLMs, including ChatGPT, cannot provide.

2. Unfiltered Image Generation

One of Grok-2’s standout features is its capability to generate unfiltered images through its integration with FLUX. Unlike ChatGPT and DALL-E 3, Grok-2 can produce images of real people, including celebrities and political figures. This feature also allows for the creation of images with sensitive or controversial content, raising potential concerns about misuse.

3. Dual Interaction Modes

Another in the list of things Elon Musk’s Grok-2 AI chatbot can do that ChatGPT can’t is- operate in two modes. Grok-2 offers two modes: a regular mode and a ‘fun’ mode. While the regular mode functions similarly to the original Grok model, the fun mode gives the chatbot a more distinctive and entertaining personality. Cheung described this mode as “more entertaining than ChatGPT’s usual responses,” making it appealing for users looking for a more engaging interaction.

4. Referencing Source Tweets

Grok-2 can reference specific tweets when summarizing news or providing information. This feature is particularly valuable for users who want to verify the accuracy of the information or explore the original context. In comparison, ChatGPT typically does not provide direct references, making Grok-2 more reliable for fact-checking.

5. Seamless Integration with X

Grok-2 is directly integrated into X, providing a seamless user experience with its own tab on both web and mobile versions of the platform. This integration includes an “Ask Grok” button that can summarize posts instantly, making it a convenient tool for users who spend significant time on X and prefer not to switch between different apps.

6. Humorous and Entertaining Features

A unique feature of Grok-2 is its ability to roast X profiles. Users can ask Grok-2, in its fun mode, to mock any X handle or highlight their worst tweets. This feature showcases the chatbot’s playful side and encourages user interaction through entertainment.

Is Grok-2 a Game Changer?

Despite these innovative features, Cheung remains cautious in declaring Grok-2 superior to ChatGPT. While xAI claims that Grok-2 is outperforming other models like Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4-Turbo, Cheung believes OpenAI’s ChatGPT still leads in most general use cases. However, for specific applications leveraging Grok-2’s unique features, it could indeed be a game changer.

Grok, released in November 2023, is an AI chatbot developed by xAI. It is available to users with a Premium+ subscription on X. Grok-2, powered by a large language model known as Grok-1, was built using a custom tech stack involving Kubernetes, JAX, and Rust, which enabled faster and more efficient development compared to other AI models.
