Hyundai Unveils 2026 Palisade with New Hybrid Powertrain and Turbocharged Engine
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Hyundai has officially revealed more details about the highly anticipated 2026 Palisade, bringing exciting updates to its flagship three-row SUV. The new model first showcased at the end of 2024, introduces a hybrid powertrain for the first time, alongside a shift to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine replacing the outgoing naturally aspirated V-6. While the specifications currently apply to the Korean market, they offer a strong indication of what to expect in the U.S. when the SUV arrives later this year.

Powertrain Updates: Turbocharged Four-Cylinder Replaces V-6

One of the most significant changes in the 2026 Hyundai Palisade is the transition from a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 to a more efficient turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine. This engine produces 281 horsepower, likely the same powerplant found in models like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento. While Hyundai has not yet confirmed the transmission for this engine, there is hope that it will move away from the clunky dual-clutch automatic gearbox that has received criticism in other applications.

Introducing the Hybrid Powertrain

For the first time, the Hyundai Palisade will feature a hybrid option, combining the turbocharged 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. The hybrid system produces a combined 334 horsepower, significantly improving over the previous 291-horsepower V-6 engine. This makes the Palisade Hybrid one of the most powerful midsize SUV hybrids on the market, though it still falls slightly short of the 362-horsepower Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max. Hyundai has confirmed that the hybrid model will come with all-wheel drive and offer adaptive dampers for improved ride comfort and handling.

Design and Interior Enhancements

The 2026 Palisade carries forward Hyundai’s modern design language with a bold exterior that enhances its road presence. The front fascia has been refined with a more prominent grille and sleeker headlights, lending a more sophisticated look. The Calligraphy trim, which serves as the range-topping luxury variant, showcases premium materials and an upscale cabin experience.

Inside, Hyundai is offering high-end materials and a host of new features to enhance passenger comfort. The Korean version of the Palisade even includes an optional front bench seat, increasing seating capacity to nine passengers. However, this feature may not make it to the U.S. market due to safety regulations and consumer preferences. Expect high-quality upholstery, ambient lighting, and an upgraded infotainment system with larger displays and improved connectivity features.

What to Expect for the U.S. Market

Although Hyundai has only detailed the Korean-spec Palisade, most of these changes are expected to carry over to the American version. The hybrid option, in particular, could attract buyers looking for better fuel efficiency without compromising power. The exterior styling updates and luxurious interior touches will likely remain consistent, with Hyundai expected to confirm specific U.S. details in the coming months.

With a planned release by the end of the year, the 2026 Hyundai Palisade is poised to strengthen its position in the competitive three-row SUV segment. With a more powerful hybrid option, refined design, and advanced technology, the latest iteration of the Palisade is shaping up to be one of Hyundai’s most exciting releases yet.
