Audi Sport is making history by putting some of its most iconic former LMP prototypes and DTM cars up for sale. For the first time, these ex-factory race cars will be available for purchase in drivable condition, marking a significant moment for collectors and motorsport enthusiasts. The newly formed ‘Audi Sport Racing Legends’ initiative has been created to support customers who wish to own a piece of Audi’s motorsport legacy.
The first handover under this program is expected to take place this summer, with an undisclosed collector set to receive a fully restored race car.
Restored to Factory Standards
Audi Sport GmbH is ensuring that each car is meticulously restored to its original racing condition. Managing Director Rolf Michl emphasized the high level of expertise involved in the process, stating:
“We are rebuilding these chassis together with reconditioned parts from that time into racing cars according to strict standards and with a high level of expertise. In some cases, even the developers from that era are involved in the current projects.”
Among the first models available for purchase are the Audi R18 e-tron quattro and the Audi RS 5 DTM—two of the most dominant race cars ever produced by the German manufacturer.

Audi R18 e-tron quattro (Chassis 207)
This LMP1 hybrid prototype is one of Audi’s most successful endurance racing machines. Chassis 207 famously won the 2012 Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps round of the FIA World Endurance Championship, piloted by Romain Dumas, Loic Duval, and Marc Gene. The R18 e-tron quattro was a technological marvel, utilizing a hybrid powertrain that made it one of the most efficient and competitive race cars of its era.
Audi RS 5 DTM (Chassis 107)
This RS 5 DTM was a race-winning machine in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series. Chassis 107 achieved success in 2015, with Timo Scheider behind the wheel, further cementing Audi’s dominance in the high-profile touring car championship.

Purchasing a car from the Audi Sport Racing Legends program is more than just acquiring a piece of motorsport history. According to Michl, customers will gain access to an elite circle of collectors, benefit from Audi’s extensive motorsport expertise, and receive comprehensive customer support.
“Our customers become part of a select circle, benefit from our motorsport expertise, and receive comprehensive support,” Michl added. “They can look forward to not only extremely sought-after racing cars but also a firework display of driving emotions.”

Audi Sport will showcase its Racing Legends program at several high-profile events throughout the year, including the Jim Clark Revival at Hockenheim, the Le Mans Classic, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Audi’s Transformation in Motorsport
The decision to sell its factory race cars comes amid Audi’s broader shift in motorsport strategy. The company recently disbanded its GT3 factory racing program and delivered the final R8 LMS GT3 car. This move signals a transition for Audi as it refocuses on its upcoming ventures, including its highly anticipated Formula 1 entry in 2026.
