In a landmark moment for in-car infotainment, Aston Martin has become the first automaker to fully integrate Apple’s next-generation CarPlay Ultra system into its lineup of luxury sports cars and SUVs. Starting today, customers in the U.S. and Canada ordering the DB12, Vantage, Vanquish, and updated DBX will receive the CarPlay Ultra interface as standard equipment.

What is CarPlay Ultra?

Originally teased by Apple in 2022, CarPlay Ultra represents a significant evolution from the traditional CarPlay system. Unlike the standard version, which is limited to the central infotainment display, CarPlay Ultra extends Apple’s ecosystem to cover the entire digital cockpit—including the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel.

This deeper integration allows for a fully immersive and cohesive driving experience that blends Apple’s iconic interface with vehicle-specific design cues.

Custom Dashboards Tailored to Drivers

A key highlight of CarPlay Ultra is its granular dashboard customization. Drivers can now personalize the look and layout of their instrument panel, selecting from various themes for speedometers, tachometers, and other readouts. Navigation, media, and notifications can now be displayed across a broader canvas, thanks to the system’s ability to unify all digital displays.

For Aston Martin drivers, these options will be curated to align with the brand’s distinctive luxury aesthetic. “Our CarPlay Ultra interface will remain unmistakably Aston Martin,” said a company spokesperson. “From color schemes to gauge styles, we’ve ensured that every choice feels like it belongs inside one of our vehicles.”

Voice and Touch Control for Vehicle Functions

CarPlay Ultra isn’t just about aesthetics. Functionality has been deeply embedded as well. Drivers will be able to control climate settings, seat adjustments, and in-car entertainment through the CarPlay interface—either via the touchscreen or using Siri voice commands. This marks a step closer to making Apple’s software an all-encompassing hub for daily driving tasks.

These advanced controls are also supported in the updated version of the standard CarPlay system, which debuted on the Porsche Taycan earlier this year. However, CarPlay Ultra pushes the envelope further by enveloping the driver in a seamless, Apple-led experience across all digital surfaces.

Device and Software Requirements

To use CarPlay Ultra, drivers will need an iPhone 12 or newer, running iOS 18.5.4 or later. This ensures compatibility with the latest security, performance, and interface upgrades required to run Apple’s expanded automotive platform.

Upgrade Path for Existing Owners

Aston Martin confirmed that owners of previous models equipped with the latest infotainment system will be able to upgrade to CarPlay Ultra in the coming weeks. The updates will be rolled out via authorized dealerships, though exact timelines may vary by region and vehicle model.

A New Era for In-Car Technology

With this launch, Aston Martin becomes a pioneer in the future of integrated vehicle software, placing itself at the forefront of Apple’s ambitious vision for the modern car cockpit. As more automakers prepare to adopt CarPlay Ultra in the months ahead, the line between smartphone and dashboard continues to blur—ushering in a new era where luxury, technology, and personalization go hand-in-hand.
