Ram Raises the Bar: New 10-Year, 100,000-Mile Powertrain Warranty Aims to Win Truck Buyers
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

In a significant move that could reshape the competitive landscape of American pickup trucks, Ram has unveiled an expansive new powertrain warranty, 10 years or 100,000 miles, for its 2026 and newer models. Dubbed “America’s Best Warranty,” the new offering is designed to meet the changing realities of truck ownership, where financing periods and vehicle prices continue to grow.

Responding to Evolving Buyer Trends

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis explained the motivation behind the new warranty during a private media event earlier this month.

“Truck buyers are financing purchases for longer periods of time, with nearly 80% of new truck loans now exceeding five years,” Kuniskis said. “As lease timelines and vehicle prices rise, we wanted to provide a warranty that brings long-term peace of mind and value to our customers.”

Initially intended only for light-duty pickups, the warranty will now apply to all 2026 and later Ram models with the exception of fleet vehicles, making this one of the most aggressive warranty programs in the industry.

What the Warranty Covers, And What It Doesn’t? While the warranty isn’t bumper-to-bumper, it covers critical powertrain components: the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles. It applies only to the original owner and builds on Ram’s previous five-year/60,000-mile warranty, which was on par with those of Ford and General Motors.

A Competitive Edge in a Hot Market

Stephanie Brinley, associate director of Auto Intelligence at S&P Global Mobility, views the move as smart, though not necessarily game-changing overnight.

“Extended warranties like this can definitely help with brand loyalty and converting new buyers,” Brinley said. “It won’t magically double sales, but it does give Ram an edge in consumer consideration, especially at a time when people are wary of higher prices and longer loans.”

She also pointed to brands like Hyundai that have successfully used extended warranties to grow market share and consumer trust.

Part of a Larger Brand Push

The warranty announcement is the latest in a string of headline-making moves from Ram this year. CEO Kuniskis has been driving a multi-pronged product push, which has included the return of the popular Hemi engine, Ram’s re-entry into the NASCAR Truck Series, and buzz-generating prototype race trucks.

“Ram is making a stronger and longer commitment to our customers,” Kuniskis emphasized. “We want them to feel confident — not just when they drive off the lot, but for years down the road.”

Looking Ahead

Will this bold warranty move sway undecided buyers? While experts say it’s not a silver bullet, it positions Ram strongly in a market where long-term costs and peace of mind increasingly shape purchase decisions. One thing is certain: as competition between Detroit’s Big Three continues to heat up, truck buyers will be the ones to benefit.
