Before you can even think about hunting Lagiacrus, there are a few key requirements you must meet. Capcom has designed this quest to be a mid-to-late-game challenge, so you’ll need to put in some work first.
- Reach Hunter Rank 31+
Lagiacrus isn’t an early-game monster. You’ll need to grind your way up to at least Hunter Rank 31 before the quest becomes available. If you’re not there yet, focus on completing high-rank hunts and assignments to boost your rank. - Complete the Main Mission: “A World Turned Upside Down”
This is a critical story quest that must be finished before Lagiacrus becomes accessible. If you haven’t completed it yet, check your mission log and prioritize it. - Finish the Side Mission: “Forest Doshaguma”
This side quest is given by Erik in the Scarlet Forest. Once you complete it, you’ll need to reset the area—either by resting at camp or fast-traveling out and back in—before the Lagiacrus quest appears.

- Thunder Resistance: Lagiacrus loves to inflict Thunderblight, which increases your chances of being stunned. Equip armor with high Thunder Resistance (20+ makes you immune) or bring Nulberries to cure the blight.
- Fire Weapons: Lagiacrus is weakest to fire, so weapons like the Anjanath or Rathalos lines will deal extra damage. Aim for its back and tail for maximum effectiveness.
- Traps & Tranquilizers: Unlike most hunts, this quest requires you to capture Lagiacrus, not slay it. Bring Pitfall Traps and Tranq Bombs to secure the win.

The Trembling Blue Currents Quest Walkthrough

You’ll need to investigate several Rathalos tracks, including claw marks and scorched earth. Eventually, you’ll find an electrocuted Dalthydon—a clear sign that Lagiacrus is nearby. - The Battle Begins
After a brief cutscene, Lagiacrus will appear, driving off the Rathalos. The fight will take place in two phases:- Land Phase: Lagiacrus is aggressive but manageable. Watch out for its Thunder Discharge (a massive AOE lightning attack) and lunging tail swipes.
- Underwater Phase: If you deal enough damage, Lagiacrus will retreat into the water. Follow it and use your Hook Slinger to cling onto it for critical damage.
- Capture, Don’t Kill!
Once Lagiacrus is weak (indicated by a skull icon on the map), lay down a Pitfall Trap and hit it with two Tranq Bombs to complete the quest. Failing to capture it will force you to restart.
