Top 7 New ChatGPT Updates Rolled Out This Week
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

ChatGPT users have plenty to be excited about this week. Following the launch of its latest GPT-5 model, OpenAI has rolled out a comprehensive suite of updates that are reshaping how people interact with the AI assistant. These changes affect both individual subscribers and enterprise users, bringing new features, expanded access, and even some personality tweaks to make conversations feel more natural.

1. GPT-4o Now Listed Under Legacy Models by Default

One of the most notable changes is how OpenAI is handling older models. GPT-4o is now available under “Legacy models” by default for paid users, making it easier for those who prefer the familiar feel of the previous generation to access it without jumping through hoops. This move comes after OpenAI temporarily removed the model, then brought it back due to user demand. For many users who had grown comfortable with GPT-4o’s particular style and performance, this ensures their preferred model remains just a click away.

2. Additional Models Can Be Enabled in Settings

Paid subscribers now have greater flexibility in choosing their AI assistant thanks to a new “Show additional models” toggle in settings. This unlocks access to specialized models including o3, GPT-4.1, and GPT-5 Thinking mini. The expanded options give power users the ability to match their specific needs with the right model, whether they’re looking for lightweight processing, deeper reasoning capabilities, or want to test how newer models perform against older ones.

3. GPT-5 Now Has Auto, Fast, and Thinking Modes

Perhaps the most significant update is how GPT-5 now operates with three distinct modes in the model picker. Fast mode prioritizes speed for quick responses when you need answers immediately. Thinking mode takes more time to generate deeper, more structured answers for complex problems. For users who don’t want to choose, Auto mode automatically switches between Fast and Thinking based on query complexity, offering an ideal balance between speed and depth without requiring manual selection.

4. More Messages on GPT-5 Thinking

OpenAI has addressed capacity concerns for heavy users of its most advanced reasoning model. Plus and Team subscribers now get up to 3,000 messages per week on GPT-5 Thinking, a substantial increase that allows for more extensive use of the model’s deeper reasoning capabilities. Once users reach that weekly limit, they automatically gain access to additional capacity on GPT-5 Thinking mini, ensuring uninterrupted service even for the most demanding users.

5. GPT-5 Expands to Enterprise and Education Users

Until recently, GPT-5 was exclusively available to individual Plus and Pro subscribers. Now, Enterprise and Education customers have also gained access to the newest model, marking a significant expansion of availability. This means employees across organizations and students in educational institutions can now benefit from GPT-5’s faster processing, deeper reasoning, and more adaptive responses in their professional and academic work.

6. Gmail and Google Calendar Integration

Plus and Pro users were notified of a convenient new feature through the integration of Gmail and Google Calendar. It is simpler for ChatGPT to directly draw data from the calendars and inboxes of users to make more contextually correct responses in emails. The integration allows the AI to assist with writing email responses, remind users of events in the future, and create summaries based on calendar data. The feature makes ChatGPT a much more integrated aspect of users’ everyday lives.

7. GPT-5 Is Getting Warmer and Friendlier

OpenAI is also trying to make GPT-5 more human-sounding based on user feedback. GPT-5’s responses were too stiff and formal for many users, so the company adjusted the tone of voice of the model to be warmer and more natural. Most importantly, OpenAI emphasizes these adjustments are not designed to make the model overly flattering or appeasing – internal testing shows behavior remains on course and helpful, just less robotic. The personality adjustments roll out incrementally, with more tweaks in the works.

Getting Ahead

These seven notable updates reflect OpenAI’s continued efforts towards bringing the impact and benefit of AI to different types of users. While there are some new additions like the new ChatGPT Go plan (reportedly at around $4 monthly) and Voice speed features reported, OpenAI has not announced these upgrades formally yet.

For current ChatGPT users, these new features provide a more adaptive, capable, and personalized AI experience. If you’re an occasional user looking for quick answers, a heavy user needing professional models to tackle tough work, or an organization looking to integrate AI into everyday workflows, OpenAI’s new features promise something for everyone in AI assistance in the future.
