In Ghost of Yōtei, players can uncover one of the most compelling legacies from Ghost of Tsushima: Jin Sakai’s gear. The mysterious Ghost Mask and Storm Blade lie hidden behind a Mythic Tale quest—The Storm Blade. In this guide, I’ll walk you step by step through how to unlock these items, where to go, and what to expect. Even if you’re not a veteran Tsushima fan, this quest is one of the nicest surprises in Yōtei, tying the two games together with style.

Ghost of Yōtei takes place centuries after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, in a land called Ezo (modern Hokkaido). Jin Sakai never appears directly in Yōtei, but his legend lives on. The developers built a secret side quest—The Storm Blade—to let players rediscover Jin’s legacy in a meaningful way. Completing it rewards you with both the iconic Storm Blade (a katana) and Jin’s Ghost Mask.
How to Unlock “The Storm Blade” Quest
Before you can find the mask or blade, you must trigger the quest. Here’s what to do:
- Travel to the southern tip of the Oshima Coast. This is where you’ll find the Forbidden Shrine.
- At the shrine steps, you will see Ugetsu, the storyteller NPC. Talk to him. He will ask you to help locate the Storm Blade.
- Once you accept, the mythic tale quest begins, titled The Storm Blade.
Quest Walkthrough: Steps to Get the Blade
The quest itself divides into several major stages:
1. Follow the Fox to the Glade
After the quest begins, a fox spirit appears. You must track it, climbing walls, jumping logs, and using your grappling hook to proceed deeper. You’ll arrive in the Glade of Remembrance.
2. Navigate the Lost Shinobi Den
Continue following the fox into a hidden shrine area. You’ll traverse caves, climb structures, follow visual markers (like white symbols), and eventually reach a room with Jin’s Storm Blade resting on a rock.
Just as you try to retrieve it, you’ll be ambushed: thieves attack and steal the sword from you.
3. Pursue the Thief
You must chase the last thief across broken bridges and through scenic terrain. The bridge collapses, forcing you to swim, climb, and follow the fox once again to a place called Home of the First Shinobi and a field of white flowers.
4. Final Confrontation and Recovery
At the graveyard site (often called the Graveyard of the Warrior of Storm), you’ll confront the remaining thief. Defeat them, reclaim the Storm Blade, and the quest will conclude with a cutscene.
At that point, you are rewarded with Jin’s Ghost Mask, placed near a grave marker in that same area.
Rewards: What You Get & How to Use Them
Completing The Storm Blade gives you multiple valuable items:
- Storm Blade (katana): Jin’s legendary sword, reclaimed from the thief.
- Ghost Mask: Jin’s iconic mask, retrieved near the grave marker after the final battle.
- Stag Helmet: A secondary helmet piece you can discover earlier in the quest, within the shinobi den.
Equipping the mask and blade doesn’t just offer cosmetic flair. It strengthens your connection to the Jin Sakai legacy and enriches the narrative experience. Many fans feel it ties emotional meaning and nostalgia into Yōtei’s journey.
