What is Autoplay on Netflix?

Autoplay can be understood as Netflix’s way of keeping you glued to your screen. Especially if you are watching a series that has multiple episodes. It’s that feature that automatically starts the next episode of a show a few seconds after the current one ends, so you don’t even have to reach for the remote or find the next one on your phone or an iPad. It also triggers those “previews” that play while you’re just trying to read a movie’s description, helping you get a quick view to know what to watch next. What most people complain about is that it can be annoying if you just want to see the credits. Otherwise, it takes you to the next movies or episodes swiftly, which is why people like it too. But if you don’t want it, you can toggle it off in your profile settings. This gives you the power to play the next things at your own pace.

Steps to turn off Autoplay on Netflix

If you want to turn off Autoplay on Netflix, these are the steps that you can follow.

Log in via Browser

Log in to your Netflix account that you use using any device that you’re comfortable with or use. Finding them on a TV may not be as accessible, so the best way is to use a handy device like a tablet, PC, or phone.

Account Settings

Go to your profile icon in the top right corner and click on “Account.”

Find Your Profile

Scroll down to the “Profile & Parental Controls” section. Click on the little arrow next to the specific profile you want to change. This is another important thing you must remember. The settings are to be done profile-wise, and you can’t do it for the entire account.

Playback Settings

Look for “Playback settings” and click on “Change.”

Uncheck the Boxes

On the next screen, you’ll see two main options. Uncheck “Autoplay next episode” to stop the autoplay loop from running and uncheck “Autoplay previews” to stop the trailers while you are browsing. You can choose to skip it if that doesn’t bother you.

Save Your Changes

After you have altered the settings, you can hit the Save button at the bottom.

The settings may not reflect instantly. Therefore, make sure that you restart the app on the device you’re using to see the newly added changes reflect.
