Feeling that your monitor is facing some screen tearing? Read on to know how you can fix this glitch and what the possible reasons are for the same. So, let’s get started.
What is screen tearing?
The “split” or jagged line in the middle of the image is screen tearing. It usually looks like different parts of the screen are moving differently. This non-synchronized movement on the screen is what we refer to as screen tearing. It happens because your graphics card and your monitor aren’t lining up well. Let us give you an example. Suppose that your GPU is pumping out 90 frames per second, but your monitor can only refresh 60 times per second. This is the perfect recipe for screen tearing. It starts displaying pieces of multiple frames at once, resulting in that distracting horizontal break. It can be problematic, but it is fixable.
Ways to fix screen tearing
If your screen is experiencing tearing, then these are some of the ways that you can follow.
Toggle VSync
This is the most-used old fix found in almost every game’s settings menu. It tells your GPU to wait for the monitor to finish its refresh cycle before sending the next frame, and then things simply work out better. It works instantly and works just fine. However, some people complain that it is often slower.
Enable G-Sync/FreeSync
The other method works fine for any model, but if you have a modern monitor, you can use these. They allow the monitor to communicate directly with your graphics card, so they stay perfectly aligned without any lagging. This can be real gold for gamers!
Frame Rate
If you can, then use software like RivaTuner or your GPU’s control panel to set a frame limit that matches your monitor’s refresh rate. This fixes the problem instantly at the core. It simply keeps the situation under control by keeping the GPU from overworking.
Borderless Windowed Mode
This is some out-of-the-box thinking! So, sometimes, Windows’ own desktop manager handles the syncing better than the game does, and then switching from “Fullscreen” to “Borderless Windowed” can often make tearing vanish, fixing the problem altogether.
These are some of the ways that people normally use to fix any screen tearing they face with their monitors. So, if you too feel that your PC is acting in the same manner, you know what to do. You can try any and all the methods you want to as all work just fine.
