Bengaluru-based AI startup Gushwork AI has raised $9 million (around ₹81 crore) in a fresh funding round led by Susquehanna Asia VC, with participation from Lightspeed and B Capital. The funding comes at a pivotal moment when the rules of digital discovery are being rewritten by AI-powered search engines.

The company plans to use the capital to strengthen its AI product stack, hire aggressively, and accelerate customer acquisition as buying journeys increasingly begin on conversational AI platforms rather than traditional search engines.

The Big Bet: Showing Up in AI Answers, Not Just Blue Links

Gushwork AI is built on a simple but powerful insight: when customers ask questions on AI search tools, businesses must appear as recommended answers — not just as links on a results page.

As AI-driven platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and Perplexity AI gain traction, discovery is shifting from keyword-based browsing to conversational responses. Instead of scrolling through ten links, users now expect a direct answer.

Gushwork is positioning itself at the centre of this transformation by building agentic AI — autonomous marketing agents that help businesses optimise their visibility on AI-first search engines. The idea is to ensure that when a user asks an AI tool for recommendations, the company’s product or service is embedded directly in the response.

Building the AI Stack: Investing in Product and Engineering

Chief executive and co-founder Nayrhit Bhattacharya says the newly raised capital will primarily go toward building what he calls the company’s “AI stack.” This includes strengthening engineering capabilities, improving product control, and refining output quality.

Under the hood, Gushwork builds on frontier AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude, while also developing proprietary layers that improve reliability and consistency. The startup’s internal systems aim to make outcomes more controllable even as foundational models continue to evolve.

In a rapidly changing AI landscape, this hybrid strategy — leveraging powerful base models while building differentiated tooling on top — could become a defining advantage.

Expansion Plans: Doubling Down on Talent and Customers

Currently operating with a team of around 70 employees in Bengaluru, Gushwork plans to scale rapidly. Over the next few months, the company expects to grow its workforce to between 150 and 200 people — nearly tripling its size.

Customer growth is also a key priority. The startup currently serves about 300 customers and plans to expand that base to approximately 1,500 within six months. Its focus remains on small and medium-sized businesses across global markets, a segment that often lacks the in-house expertise to navigate AI-led discovery shifts.

By automating content generation and optimisation through AI agents, Gushwork aims to make sophisticated AI marketing accessible to companies that may not have dedicated SEO or growth teams.

Backed by Strong Investor Confidence

In addition to Susquehanna Asia VC, Lightspeed, and B Capital, the funding round also saw participation from Seaborne Capital, Beenext, Sparrow Capital, and 2.2 Capital.

Gushwork had previously raised $2.1 million in a pre-seed round led by Lightspeed, with participation from B Capital, Sparrow Capital, and Seaborne Capital. The continued backing from existing investors signals confidence in the company’s product vision and execution.

Subscription Today, Performance Tomorrow

On the monetisation front, Gushwork operates on a subscription model, with pricing ranging between $800 and $2,500 per month depending on the number of pages created and managed. The company has also indicated that it may introduce a performance-linked pricing component in the future — aligning its revenue more closely with customer outcomes.

This model reflects a broader shift in marketing software, where clients increasingly demand measurable impact rather than just tools.

SEO in the Age of AI: A New Playbook

For decades, search engine optimisation meant ranking high on a results page. In the AI era, “ranking” is evolving into being recommended inside a conversational answer.

Gushwork is explicitly productising this transition. Its autonomous agents continuously generate and optimise content to ensure businesses remain visible where customer journeys now begin — inside AI responses.

As marketing adapts to AI-first interfaces, startups like Gushwork AI are betting that the next generation of visibility will not be about clicks on links, but about being the answer itself.
