U.S. EV Sales Bounce Back in Q2 2026 as Market Shows Signs of Recovery

Ever since Dodge moved away from its traditional V8 muscle formula, fans have been loud about one thing: bring the Hemi back. Now, that demand might finally be getting a response.

According to sources cited by MoparInsiders, development of a new V8-powered Charger Hellcat has quietly begun. While the project is still reportedly in early development, insiders suggest the car could debut as a 2028 model-year vehicle, potentially reaching dealerships sometime in late 2027.

If that timeline holds, Dodge would be bringing back one of the most iconic performance badges in modern muscle car history.

Why the V8 Matters to Charger Loyalists

The latest generation Charger introduced new powertrain options, including the twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six, which produces around 550 horsepower in its high-output form. On paper, it’s impressive.

But numbers aren’t the issue.

For muscle car loyalists, the sound, character, and brute feel of a supercharged V8 are irreplaceable. The Charger’s identity has long been tied to its roaring Hemi engines, and many enthusiasts never warmed to the idea of downsizing.

Even the new Sixpack models, which are widely praised by those who’ve driven them, haven’t fully filled the emotional gap left by the old Hellcat.

What this really means is simple: horsepower sells, but heritage sells harder.

Why Dodge Might Skip the Smaller Hemis

Interestingly, if the Charger does get a V8 again, it likely won’t be the smaller Hemi engines that powered earlier models.

According to comments from Tim Kuniskis, Dodge is unlikely to revive the 5.7-liter Hemi. The 6.4-liter V8 also doesn’t make much sense anymore since its output falls short of the new Hurricane inline-six.

That leaves only one logical option: go straight to Hellcat power.

The legendary supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8, known for producing well over 700 horsepower in previous models, would instantly restore the Charger’s status as a top-tier American muscle machine.

A Potential $100,000 Muscle Car

There is, however, one catch: price.

Performance cars have become significantly more expensive across the industry, and a new Charger Hellcat could reportedly approach $100,000 depending on trim and features.

Despite that steep figure, demand likely wouldn’t be an issue. Hellcat models historically sold extremely well, often commanding dealer markups due to their popularity and limited availability.

For many buyers, the appeal goes beyond performance. Owning a Hellcat means owning a piece of modern muscle car culture.

A Four-Season Hellcat?

One feature that could make the new Charger even more appealing is the platform’s adjustable rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive capability.

If Dodge carries that system over to the Hellcat version, it would create something unusual in the muscle segment: a 700-plus-horsepower performance car usable year-round.

That combination of brutal power and everyday practicality could give the next Charger Hellcat a unique edge.

The Return of American Muscle’s Loudest Icon

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, and development is reportedly still in the early stages. But the possibility alone has reignited excitement among enthusiasts.

If Dodge truly brings back a Hellcat-powered Charger, it would mark a dramatic moment for the brand proof that even in a changing automotive landscape, the roar of a supercharged V8 still has a place.
