Honda has officially ended months of speculation by confirming that an all-new third-generation Ridgeline pickup is on the way. The announcement comes as the Japanese automaker continues refreshing its SUV and truck lineup following the arrival of the latest Pilot and Passport.
While Honda hasn’t revealed the truck in full, it has released the first teaser image and shared key details about what buyers can expect. The upcoming Ridgeline is set to adopt a bolder design, retain its practical identity, and introduce hybrid power for the first time, marking one of the biggest updates in the model’s history.
A Tougher Look Inspired by Honda’s Latest SUVs
The teaser image doesn’t reveal much beyond the truck’s silhouette, but Honda says the next-generation Ridgeline will feature a noticeably more rugged appearance.
That likely means the pickup will borrow styling cues from the recently redesigned Passport, especially the TrailSport variant, which emphasizes off-road capability through a more upright and muscular design.
Industry observers expect the new Ridgeline to trade its softer curves for a boxier profile while maintaining the practicality that has made it popular among everyday truck buyers. Signature features such as the lockable in-bed trunk and dual-action tailgate are also expected to remain, preserving the model’s reputation for versatility.
Rather than chasing full-size truck aggression, Honda appears focused on giving the Ridgeline a stronger visual presence without sacrificing the comfort and usability that distinguish it from traditional body-on-frame pickups.
Designed in California, Engineered in Ohio
Honda confirmed that the new Ridgeline is being designed at its Southern California design studio, while engineering development is taking place at the Honda Auto Development Center in Ohio.
The production version will continue to be assembled at Honda’s manufacturing facility in Alabama, ensuring continuity for one of the brand’s key North American products.
To prepare for the transition, production of the current-generation Ridgeline will pause later this year before the new model enters production.
Honda says the third-generation truck will reach dealerships within the next two years, although an exact launch date has not yet been announced.
Hybrid V6 Expected to Lead the Lineup
Perhaps the biggest news surrounding the next Ridgeline is what’s expected to sit under the hood.
The upcoming pickup is likely to receive Honda’s next-generation hybrid V6 powertrain paired with as many as three electric motors. If those expectations hold true, the new system could deliver significantly better performance while reducing fuel consumption.
Honda estimates the hybrid setup could improve acceleration by more than 10 percent compared to today’s gasoline-powered Ridgeline. Fuel economy could also increase by over 30 percent, making it one of the most efficient midsize pickups in its segment.
The move reflects a broader strategy across Honda’s lineup as the company expands its hybrid offerings before introducing more fully electric models later this decade.
Building on the Ridgeline’s Unique Identity
Unlike many midsize pickups that prioritize heavy-duty towing or extreme off-road performance, the Ridgeline has always carved out its own niche.
Its unibody construction provides a smoother ride, better everyday comfort, and easier handling than many traditional trucks. At the same time, practical features such as the waterproof in-bed trunk, spacious cabin, and innovative tailgate have helped it appeal to families, outdoor enthusiasts, and lifestyle buyers.
The next generation appears set to build on those strengths rather than abandon them. By combining familiar practicality with a tougher design and electrified performance, Honda hopes to broaden the truck’s appeal without losing what existing owners appreciate most.
A Major Step for Honda’s Truck Future
Although Honda is keeping most details under wraps, the confirmation of a third-generation Ridgeline signals the company’s long-term commitment to the midsize pickup market.
With rivals rapidly embracing electrification and increasingly rugged styling, Honda’s upcoming truck appears ready to evolve in both design and technology. If the promised hybrid performance gains and bold new styling become reality, the next Ridgeline could emerge as one of the most significant updates the model has seen since its original debut.
More information, including full specifications, pricing, and an official reveal date, is expected closer to the truck’s launch within the next two years.
