Anthropic Could Begin IPO Marketing as Early as October, Report Says

Anthropic, one of the biggest players in the artificial intelligence industry, could be preparing for one of the most closely watched public listings in recent history. The AI company is expected to begin marketing its initial public offering as early as mid-October, with the listing potentially taking place just days before the US midterm elections in November, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company had previously been expected to make its IPO prospectus public as early as next week. However, that timeline has now shifted, with the filing not expected until late September, the people said. They cautioned that the schedule remains subject to change as Anthropic works through the final stages of the offering.

The delay could push back what some investors believe could become a $2 trillion listing, potentially making Anthropic’s IPO one of the largest ever attempted.

Anthropic’s IPO Timeline Shifts

An IPO prospectus is one of the key documents in the public-listing process, providing investors with detailed information about a company’s business, financial performance and risks.

Once Anthropic makes the document public, the offering would enter a much more visible phase. The company would then be able to move toward marketing the shares and gauging demand from institutional investors.

However, companies regularly change IPO schedules because of regulatory reviews, market conditions and other preparations. Anthropic’s revised timeline therefore does not necessarily indicate a problem with the planned listing.

The company is reportedly working to finalize a $15 billion revolving credit facility as part of its preparations. Analysts, including those working for banks involved in the financing, are then expected to meet with Anthropic.

$15 Billion Credit Facility Adds Firepower

The massive credit facility could give Anthropic additional financial flexibility as it prepares for life as a public company.

Bloomberg previously reported that the company was in discussions to expand the facility to $15 billion. Such a large financing arrangement also underlines the enormous capital requirements of the AI industry, where companies are spending billions of dollars on computing infrastructure, chips and data centers.

Analyst meetings normally take place several weeks before an IPO prospectus becomes public. Anthropic could potentially move faster because analysts at the banks involved already have extensive knowledge of the company and its business.

Anthropic IPO Could Test AI Investor Appetite

The planned offering comes at a crucial moment for the AI industry.

Investors are eager to gain direct exposure to companies benefiting from the explosive growth in artificial intelligence, but Anthropic’s valuation could also force public markets to answer a much bigger question: How much are investors willing to pay for the future of AI?

Some estimates have suggested that Anthropic could command a valuation approaching $2 trillion. At that level, the company would immediately rank among the world’s most valuable businesses.

The IPO could therefore become a major test of whether the enormous private-market valuations attached to leading AI companies can be justified in public markets.

OpenAI and SpaceX Could Join the IPO Wave

Anthropic may not be the only major technology company heading toward a public listing.

Other AI giants, including OpenAI, are also viewed as potential IPO candidates. Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s SpaceX went public in June at a record $1.77 trillion valuation, adding another enormous technology listing to the market.

If Anthropic proceeds with its IPO around October, investors could find themselves watching an unprecedented wave of mega-listings tied to artificial intelligence, advanced technology and computing.

Wall Street Giants Are Behind Anthropic

Several of Wall Street’s biggest investment banks are reportedly working with Anthropic on the offering. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Citi are among the banks involved.

Anthropic has declined to comment on the IPO timeline, while the banks have also declined to comment.

For now, the exact date remains uncertain. But if Anthropic begins marketing its shares in October as expected, its IPO could become a defining moment for both the company and the broader AI boom.
