The Panda Costume is one of the funniest cosmetic rewards in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While Miyamoto Musashi spends most of the adventure fighting Genma and surviving brutal sword battles, the game eventually lets you trade his serious samurai look for something much more playful.
The requirement is straightforward: finish the game’s main campaign. Once you reach the end of the story and complete the final sequence, the Panda Costume is added as a post-game cosmetic reward.
Complete the Main Story
This means there is no specific chapter where you can pick it up early. You also do not need to collect every Lion Dog, defeat every optional boss, or finish every challenge before the outfit becomes available.
If your main goal is the panda outfit, simply focus on progressing through the story. You can leave most optional activities for later and return to them after completing the campaign.
There is also no need to restart your save or begin a new playthrough. Your campaign remains the key requirement, and the cosmetic can be used after the credits. This makes the outfit easy to obtain once the credits have rolled.
When Can You Equip It?
Cosmetic customization in Onimusha: Way of the Sword is handled through Spirit Mirrors. These are important locations that also serve other useful purposes during your journey.
The Change Appearance option becomes available as you progress through the story. After it has been unlocked, you can use a Spirit Mirror to manage Musashi’s available cosmetic options.
After completing the main campaign, check the Change Appearance menu for the Panda Costume. Select the outfit and confirm your choice. The costume changes Musashi’s appearance without affecting his combat performance.
Does the Panda Costume Change Your Stats?
No. The Panda Costume is purely cosmetic. Wearing it does not increase Musashi’s health, attack power, defense, speed, or any other combat attribute.
This is worth remembering because Onimusha: Way of the Sword has several different customization options. Some items, such as charms, can affect gameplay, while appearance items are designed only to change how a character or weapon looks.
The Panda Costume belongs to the cosmetic side of the system, so you can wear it without worrying about losing a combat advantage.
Do You Need the Deluxe Edition?
No. The Panda Costume should not be confused with the Bamboo & Panda sword appearance included with the Deluxe Kit.
These are different cosmetic rewards:
- Panda Costume: Unlocked by completing the main story.
- Bamboo & Panda sword appearance: Included with the Deluxe Kit.
- Wataru-kun Costume: Another novelty costume earned after finishing the story.
The distinction matters if you are checking your cosmetics and see something related to a panda in the Deluxe Edition content. Buying the Deluxe Edition is not necessary to unlock the Panda Costume.
