Shiny Zorua is a rare variant of Zorua, the Dark-type Tricky Fox Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Shiny Zorua first became available during the Halloween 2023 Part II event. It remains obtainable when Zorua appears in the game and its shiny form is enabled.
Zorua uses a disguise. It usually appears on the map as your current Buddy Pokémon, so you cannot judge its true identity or shiny status by looking at the map.
Catch Zorua to Check for Its Shiny Form
The method is to find and catch wild Zorua. When it appears, it copies your Buddy Pokémon’s appearance. Tap the disguised Pokémon and catch it normally. After capture, the game displays an “Oh?” message and reveals whether it was actually Zorua.
You must catch the Pokémon to find out if it is shiny. There is no method to force a shiny encounter, and using a Shiny Buddy, berries, or Poké Balls will not change the odds. Such choices support catching and spotting Pokémon.
A shiny-looking disguise does not guarantee a Shiny Zorua. The disguise can copy your Buddy’s shiny appearance even when the Zorua itself is not shiny.
Choose a Buddy That Makes Zorua Easy to Spot
A smart Buddy choice can make disguised Zorua easier to recognise. Consider setting one of these as your Buddy:
- A Shiny Pokémon, whose unusual colour stands out.
- A Legendary or Mythical Pokémon that rarely appears in the wild.
- A Shadow Pokémon with a distinctive purple aura.
- A Pokémon wearing a costume or showing a Best Buddy ribbon.
- A large Pokémon that is easy to notice on a crowded map.
If you see your unusual Buddy in a place where it would not normally spawn, it may be Zorua.
Your Buddy does not need to be walking beside you.
Use Events for More Encounters
Special events are usually the best time to hunt Shiny Zorua because the Pokémon may appear more frequently. The October 2026 Zorua Community Day took place on October 10, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Zorua appeared more often, and the event offered an increased chance of finding its shiny form. Regular Lure Modules at PokéStops also had a high chance of attracting Zorua from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with an increased shiny chance for those attracted spawns.
That event has now ended, but future events may feature Zorua again. Watch the Today View for future events and boosted spawns.
Use Incense and Lure Modules Wisely
When Zorua is appearing in the wild, Incense can attract more Pokémon around you while you move. Lure Modules can increase Pokémon activity at a PokéStop.
However, Incense and Lure Modules do not automatically improve Zorua’s shiny odds. Save them for periods when Zorua is available.
Can You Get Shiny Hisuian Zorua?
Hisuian Zorua is a separate regional form available in Pokémon GO, but its shiny form has not been released according to current game information. If you want a shiny, focus on regular Zorua rather than expecting Hisuian Zorua to turn shiny.
