Unlocking every weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is an important part of building the perfect multiplayer loadout. The game features assault rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, pistols, launchers, and other weapons, each suited to a different combat style. Some weapons are available early, while others require you to reach specific player levels.

How Weapon Unlocks Work in Modern Warfare 4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches with 33 weapons across its main multiplayer arsenal. Most weapons become available as you increase your player rank. However, certain weapons are tied to default loadouts or specific campaign content.
You can track your progress through the game’s progression menu. Open your multiplayer profile and select Progression to check upcoming rewards. This helps you identify which ranks unlock new weapons and plan your matches accordingly.
Create-a-Class customization becomes available at Player Level 4. Before reaching that level, you can use premade default loadouts to explore different weapon types.
Unlock Weapons by Increasing Your Player Rank
Ranking up is the main way to unlock weapons in multiplayer. Earn experience by playing matches, completing objectives, and performing well during combat.
Here are some important weapon unlock levels:
- Level 4: Han 86 assault rifle, ISO Nightshade submachine gun, Rezi 12 shotgun, FiNN light machine gun, MAR-9 marksman rifle, KG-7 Vulcan sniper rifle, and PILA launcher.
- Level 5: VEL 46 submachine gun.
- Level 9: Type 73 light machine gun.
- Level 11: Oris 8.6 marksman rifle.
- Level 14: M4 assault rifle.
- Level 21: Hyeon Burst assault rifle and Kastov 762 assault rifle.
- Level 25: Astaroth .57 sniper rifle.
- Level 30: PPSh-41 submachine gun.
- Level 34: Oden assault rifle.
- Level 39: Oden assault rifle.
- Level 50: Signal .50 sniper rifle.
- Level 55: Cronen Squall assault rifle.
These milestones are useful starting points, but check the in-game Progression menu for the exact requirements. Some weapons are available through default loadouts, while others require you to reach their listed rank.
Unlock Every Weapon Category
Modern Warfare 4 divides its arsenal into several categories, making it easier to choose equipment for your preferred playstyle.
Assault Rifles: These versatile weapons work well at medium range. The Han 86 and M4 are useful starting options, while the Hyeon Burst and Kastov 762 offer different firing characteristics.
Submachine Guns: Weapons such as the ISO Nightshade and VEL 46 are designed for fast movement and close-range fights. Unlock more options as you progress through the ranks.
Shotguns and Light Machine Guns: The Rezi 12 provides close-range firepower, while the FiNN LMG and Type 73 offer sustained fire for players who prefer heavier weapons.
Marksman Rifles and Sniper Rifles: The MAR-9 and Oris 8.6 support precision shooting. The KG-7 Vulcan and Signal .50 are alternatives for players who prefer long-range engagements.
Pistols, Launchers, and Melee Weapons: Secondary weapons provide backup options when your primary weapon runs low on ammunition. The Combat Knife is also available for close-range encounters.
How to Unlock Weapon Attachments
Unlocking a weapon is only the first step. Each compatible firearm has its own weapon progression system.
Use a weapon in multiplayer matches to gain weapon experience. As its level increases, additional attachments become available through Gunsmith. These include optics, barrels, magazines, grips, and other modifications, depending on the weapon.
Modern Warfare 4 also introduces Apex Attachments, which can significantly change a weapon’s performance or configuration. Check the Gunsmith progression screen to see the requirements for each upgrade.
Can You Unlock Weapons Through Other Methods?
Some weapons or weapon blueprints may be available through special editions, promotional rewards, or other game content. The Vault Edition, for example, includes a Signature Weapon Collection with five weapon blueprints.
However, a blueprint is not necessarily the same as unlocking every standard version of a weapon. Check the relevant reward description before purchasing an edition for a specific firearm.
