Audi’s long-running A6 sedan is stepping into its next chapter for the 2026 model year, and this time, the brand is dialing up both performance and presence. With a bolder design, a tech-heavy interior, and a notable shift under the hood, the new A6 is shaping up to be one of the most compelling mid-size luxury sedans on the U.S. market.
V-6 Power Now Standard
The biggest news is what sits under the hood. Unlike the outgoing A6, which opened with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine, the 2026 model comes standard with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. It produces 362 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
This move not only simplifies the lineup but also significantly boosts performance at the entry point. The V-6 makes the A6 feel more premium right out of the gate, eliminating the compromise of a less powerful base engine.
A Hint That the S6 May Be Gone
Audi is also offering chassis and suspension upgrades that were once exclusive to the higher-performance S6. This includes adaptive dampers, rear-wheel steering, a sport rear differential, and a suspension setup that lowers the car’s ride height by 0.8 inches. These features arrive as part of the optional $5850 Sport Plus package available on the top Prestige trim.
By folding S6-style hardware into the regular A6, Audi appears to be signaling that the U.S. may not see an S6 for this generation. For enthusiasts, that means the A6 itself is stepping further into the performance space.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The 2026 Audi A6 will be offered in three trims:
-
Premium – starting at $65,395
-
Premium Plus – starting at $68,795
-
Prestige – starting at $72,695
The Prestige trim comes standard with an air suspension but can be swapped for the Sport Plus package’s firmer steel-spring setup for drivers who want sharper handling.
Optional luxuries remain plentiful. Highlights include a Bang & Olufsen audio system, a head-up display, and Matrix LED headlights. One standout addition is a passenger-side dashboard display, giving front passengers their own screen for entertainment or navigation.
A Sharper Look, A More Digital Cabin
Styling for the 2026 model year takes a sportier, more aggressive turn. The A6 wears sharper lines, a reworked grille, and a stronger stance that aligns it more closely with Audi’s performance-minded models. Inside, the theme is digital immersion. The cabin is dominated by high-resolution screens, designed to provide both driver and passengers with a customizable, connected experience.
The combination of bold design and advanced tech places the new A6 directly in competition with rivals like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, both of which have also leaned heavily into digital-first interiors.
Arriving This Year
Audi says the 2026 A6 will reach U.S. dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2025. With its mix of standard V-6 performance, available S6-inspired upgrades, and a modernized look and feel, the A6 seems set to make a strong case for itself in the crowded luxury sedan segment.
For buyers who want a balance of comfort, cutting-edge tech, and performance baked into the standard package, the new A6 is aiming squarely at that sweet spot.
