2027 Nissan Z Finally Gets the Upgrade Enthusiasts Wanted

Getting older rarely feels like an upgrade. For most of us, time shows up in the form of slower mornings, tired bones, and a few more grey hairs than we’d like to admit. Cars, though, play by different rules. With every new model year, they get another chance to improve. The 2027 Nissan Z is proof that even a familiar platform can still evolve in meaningful ways.

Nissan hasn’t reinvented the Z for 2027. Instead, it has focused on refining what already works. The result is a sharper, more engaging sports car that continues to appeal to drivers who still believe in the joy of driving.

And this time, Nissan has delivered something enthusiasts have been asking for since the current generation launched.

The Nismo Finally Gets a Manual

The biggest headline for the 2027 Nissan Z is simple but significant. The Z Nismo now comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. Until now, the performance version was available only with a 9-speed automatic, which felt like a strange decision for a car built around driver engagement.

That changes for 2027.

The manual transmission isn’t just added for the sake of it. Nissan has paired it with an upgraded clutch and a shorter-throw shifter to improve precision. The twin turbo V6 engine also gets revised throttle response and ignition timing, making acceleration feel more immediate when you press the pedal.

Drivers who still prefer the automatic can stick with it. But for enthusiasts, the manual option brings back the connection that defines a true sports car.

Better Brakes and Sharper Dynamics

The updates don’t stop at the gearbox. Nissan has also worked on improving the Z Nismo’s braking performance. The 2027 model introduces new two-piece iron-aluminum brake rotors along with improved cooling channels. This setup helps maintain braking consistency, especially during aggressive driving.

There’s another benefit as well. The new brakes reduce unsprung weight by 19 pounds. It may not sound dramatic, but reducing weight in key areas improves both handling and ride quality.

To match these changes, Nissan has retuned the suspension and refined the steering. The goal is simple. Make the car feel more stable and predictable when driven hard. Early impressions suggest the updates deliver exactly that.

Subtle Updates Across the Lineup

Nissan has also introduced changes across the rest of the Z range. The 2027 Nissan Z features a refreshed front fascia with a body colored grille crossbar. There’s also a new Z badge replacing the traditional Nissan logo at the front.

The Z Performance trim sees additional upgrades. Larger monotube shock absorbers improve ride comfort. A new black and tan interior adds variety inside the cabin. Buyers also get forged 19-inch wheels with black spokes, along with a 15-watt wireless charger designed to hold phones securely during spirited driving.

Another small but important change is the redesigned fuel tank. Nissan says the update helps prevent fuel delivery issues during high-speed cornering, something performance drivers will appreciate.

Pricing and Availability

The 2027 Nissan Z is expected to arrive at dealerships this summer. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but major increases seem unlikely. The current model starts at $44,265 for the base Z Sport, $54,265 for the Z Performance, and $67,045 for the Z Nismo.

Keeping the Sports Car Alive

Sports cars are becoming increasingly rare. SUVs dominate the roads, and electric vehicles are quickly gaining ground. In that environment, the Nissan Z feels refreshingly focused.

The addition of a manual Nismo, combined with thoughtful performance upgrades, keeps the 2027 Nissan Z relevant. It may not be a complete redesign, but sometimes evolution matters more than revolution.

For drivers who still enjoy the simple pleasure of shifting gears and chasing the perfect corner, the Z continues to deliver.
