This departure comes a month after Co-Founders of Instagram, social network company acquired by Facebook. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger left the company because they were frustrated by over-management from Facebook. It’s been a year and a half since Luckey founder of Oculus was apparently pushed out of Oculus sometime after being a part of a political controversy.

Facebooks isn’t financially dependent on Oculus the way it does on Instagram, as Iribe pointed out in his departure post, VR is still an experimental field, And Iribe’s time at Oculus has been smooth, although he was named in an intellectual property lawsuit by gaming company ZeniMax, which won a judgment against Oculus in 2017. There’s no clear reason for his departure.
