Volkswagen T Cross global launch

After a long teaser game, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the smallest member in its SUV family, the new T-Cross. Look-wise, the T-Cross looks much similar to its other big siblings. The front fascia has the similar grille and chrome linings as we see in other SUVs of the company. The side profile has the character line that reminds of the Tiguan. Rear of the T-Cross is fresh and designed to give it a muscular look with C-shaped tail lamps connected by a light strip on the tailgate.

The T-Cross is 4.11 m long and rides on the Volkswagen’s compact A0 version of the MQB platform, shared with the Polo and Audi A1 hatchbacks. That also means that VW won’t offer all-wheel drive in the T-Cross.

Inside, the cabin of the T-Cross looks familiar to the VW car, especially Polo. The steering, however, is all new. The little SUV comes packed with all the modern features and connectivity along with a touchscreen infotainment and navigation system.

SUVs are bought to for practicality and that’s what T-Cross has taken care of. The SUV has a capacity of five persons with the ability to slide the rear seats by 5.5 inches. It offers 455 litres of boot space in the normal condition that can be extended up to 1281 liters by putting the rear seats down.

T-Cross will be offered in four engine options: three petrol and one diesel. There are two 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol units with 94 hp and 113 hp outputs and a range topping 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder unit that makes 148 hp. The one gets a 1.6-liter TDI motor that produces 94 horsepower. Gearbox options for the SUV include a five- or six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Volkswagen will offer many modern safety features as standard across the range of the T-Cross. The list of the features includes Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Anti-collision System with pedestrian detection, City Emergency Braking System, Lane Assist, Hill Start Assist, and the proactive occupant protection system.

Production of the all-new T-Cross will begin later this year in Spain, South America, and China, and will hit the showrooms in 2019.
