Have you ever wished you could simply walk up to your iPhone and grab it without the need to type in a passcode? Well, that dream might soon come true! Can you consider a situation when the phone will be unlocked with the help of a heartbeat sensor rather than your face or password. Oh yes, you read it right – your heart may be the new way to unlock your iPhone.

The Magic of Heartbeats

As of now, iPhone users can only unlock the devices using face ID or typing a code. However, there is a new method in the pipeline by Apple to make this easier. AppleInsider pointed that the technology giant has applied for a patent to implement a mechanism that would allow users to unlock their devices by holding them. The patent was filed in August 2022 and as evident, it has been granted to Apple.

How Does It Work?

But, you may be wondering, how is your heart going to assist in unlocking your iPhone or Apple Watch? In a nutshell, it is up to your specific individual cardiovascular characteristics. The Apple Watch currently has an ECG measuring feature. Apple aims at applying this technology in confirming your heart rhythms, and enabling you to unlock and authenticate your devices.

Think about it this way: today, for instance, one has to enter a passcode to their Apple Watch to unlock their Mac Computer. When this new technology comes it means you wear your Watch and take an ECG test, your Mac opens without a password. The Watch will keep you authenticated to unlock other devices you own as long as the Watch is on.

A New Era of Convenience

Just imagine carrying an iPhone and without having to place your hands on the home button, your heartbeat could be used to unlock the screen. Apple’s own patent document also talks about the fact that these heart rate sensors on the iPhone could also measure your mood. Thus, not just your phone will know it is you, but even the mood you might be in. You can tell it is a smart technology to a whole new level!

What’s Next?

Of course, all of this thrilling technology is still in the abstract, as many of these ideas are still merely patent applications. That being said, we aren’t sure if Apple has commenced testing or not. It may be that they have, but it would still take a few more years to have this feature prominent in our daily routines. Even to talk about it is quite exciting, wouldn’t you agree?

Why Heartbeats?

One might ask, why is it essential to use heartbeats, for example? Well, your heart pattern is a little different like your fingerprints are a little different. As far as identity is concerned, it is a rather sure method, and it is something that you always have on yourself. Besides, the application of heart patterns is likely to increase the level of protection when unlocking the devices and at the same time reduce the level of inconvenience. Thus, no more searching for the phone in the dark or fumbling with the mask for Face ID – your heart will do it instead!

Conclusion

Apple has recently received a patent, allowing people to unlock devices using their heartbeat. According to this patent, it is easy to look into the future of technology. It assures us that our existence is about to be simplified, safeguarded, and overall way more entertaining. As with many Google features, it will take some time to determine whether or not Google will actually go through with this but one can only imagine. One thing’s for sure: The fact that technology is advancing is proven by the fact that the beat is strong and we are all looking forward to the future. Therefore, look out for more updates from Apple!
