The sudden passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, has left the business world and Bollywood circles abuzz with questions about the future of his vast fortune and business empire. As the dust settles, attention has turned to the division of his estimated Rs 10,300 crore personal wealth and the succession plans for his Rs 31,000 crore company. With three marriages and children from different relationships, the details of his legacy are both complex and carefully planned.

The Legacy of Sona Comstar and Sunjay Kapur’s Business Empire:

Sunjay Kapur inherited Sona Comstar after the death of his father, Surinder Kapur, in 2015. Under his stewardship, the company grew into a global force in the auto components sector, expanding operations across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the United States. By 2025, Sona Comstar’s market capitalisation had soared to around Rs 31,000 crore, making it a major player in the automotive industry.

Kapur’s leadership was marked by strategic expansion and innovation, earning him a reputation as a visionary in the business community. His sudden death during a polo match in London, reportedly caused by anaphylactic shock after swallowing a bee, shocked both his family and the industry. In response, Sona Comstar issued a statement assuring stakeholders that business operations would remain stable and that Kapur’s legacy would be honoured.

Who Will Take Over Sona Comstar?

Despite the company’s public assurances, the question of who will take the helm at Sona Comstar remains open. None of Sunjay Kapur’s children are currently of age or positioned to assume executive roles in the company. Reports suggest that the board of directors will continue managing the company for the foreseeable future, with the possibility that his sisters may take on more active roles in the business. The company has not yet made an official announcement regarding a permanent successor, but has emphasized that its operations and long-term prospects remain unchanged as it deals this transition.

What Karisma Kapoor’s Kids Will Inherit?

Sunjay Kapur’s personal life was as eventful as his business journey. He was married three times—first to designer Nandita Mahtani, then to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, and finally to model Priya Sachdev. He leaves behind three biological children: Samaira and Kiaan with Karisma Kapoor, and Azarias with Priya Sachdev. He also adopted Safira, Priya Sachdev’s daughter from a previous marriage.

According to reports, Sunjay Kapur’s entire estate, valued at approximately Rs 10,300 crore, will be managed by his wife, Priya Sachdev, as per legal succession norms. However, Kapur had made specific financial arrangements for all his children. For Samaira and Kiaan, his children with Karisma Kapoor, he set aside bonds worth Rs 14 crore and ensured a monthly income of Rs 10 lakh each. These measures were designed to secure their financial future, regardless of their direct involvement in the family business.

During their divorce in 2016, Karisma Kapoor was also awarded a significant alimony settlement, including ownership of a house and the aforementioned bonds for her children. The couple maintained a respectful relationship post-divorce, co-parenting their children and celebrating milestones together.

The Road Ahead for Kapur’s Family and Business:

While the immediate management of Sona Comstar is in the hands of the board and potentially Kapur’s sisters, the long-term future of the company may eventually involve his children, once they come of age or if they choose to enter the business. For now, the company’s leadership is focused on stability and continuity, reassuring investors and employees that Kapur’s vision and values will guide Sona Comstar forward.

Sunjay Kapur’s legacy is defined not only by his business achievements but also by his careful planning for his family’s future. His children with Karisma Kapoor are financially secure, with substantial bonds and a steady monthly income, while his wife Priya Sachdev takes charge of the estate. The business community will be watching closely to see how Sona Comstar deals this period of transition and whether Kapur’s children eventually step into leadership roles.

In the end, Sunjay Kapur’s story is one of ambition, foresight, and a commitment to both his family and his business—a legacy that will shape the future of Sona Comstar and the fortunes of his heirs for years to come.
