India’s clean technology and automotive industries have reached a major turning point, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He declared during his speech at the ET World Leaders Forum 2025 that India is getting ready to export electric cars (EVs) to 100 nations, a move that would strengthen India’s position as a major force in the global mobility scene. Modi made his remarks while the local EV market is expanding rapidly, supported by research, strong regulations, and rising investments in production and innovation.

The Prime Minister emphasized that until 2014, India’s annual automobile exports hovered around ₹50,000 crore. In the subsequent decade, annual exports more than doubled to ₹1.2 lakh crore. This amazing development is currently being expanded from conventional cars to a vast new market: electric vehicles. Modi hinted that on August 26, an important project related to the EV export drive would be formally announced. This effort, which shows both economic stability and innovative policy, is a fresh success story for the Indian car industry.

Transforming India’s Manufacturing and Export Landscape:

The EV export announcement is the logical next step in India’s manufacturing renaissance, highlighting self-reliance and global competitiveness. Over the last few years, Indian corporations and policy makers have worked collectively to transform the country into a major automobile production hub. Today, India not only exports cars and two-wheelers but has also begun shipping metro coaches, rail coaches, and locomotives to international markets.

The government’s emphasis on research and technical development is driving this manufacturing momentum to clean transportation. As India quickly implements policy platforms and incentives that support both domestic R&D and improved industrial capabilities, Modi noted that research and innovation are key pillars in this rise. As a result, both foreign and Indian automakers are increasing their EV manufacturing for worldwide markets, establishing India as a provider of next-generation vehicles as well as a customer.

Policy Support and Vision for a Developed Nation:

The export push is supported by a series of strategic reforms and government incentives. Policy frameworks have shifted focus from imports and short-term interests toward building a strong manufacturing ecosystem for the future. The Union Budget 2025-26 has provided substantial support, including tax exemptions for exporters, export promotion missions, and measures aimed at scaling up both EV manufacturing and components exports to advanced markets, including Europe and Japan.

These initiatives are in sync with Modi’s broader vision of India evolving into the world’s third-largest economy. He reiterated that the country is on track to become a developed nation by 2047, with export performance playing a pivotal role in this transformation. The Prime Minister assured that when the fundamentals of an economy are strong, the positive impact is visible across all sectors, from high-tech manufacturing to sustainable mobility.

Strengthening India’s Position in Global EV Markets:

The government’s export strategy is timely. As global demand for electric vehicles climbs, Indian manufacturers are well poised to capture market share through their cost-competitive products and expanding technological expertise. Major Indian and global automakers are investing in scaling production facilities for EVs in India, eyeing not only domestic markets but also lucrative opportunities across Asia, Africa, and advanced economies. Brands like Suzuki and multinational entities such as Stellantis have already initiated export operations to regions ranging from Southeast Asia to Europe.

India’s expanding export destinations now reflect its growing credibility as an automotive manufacturing powerhouse. The new EV export drive is expected to further boost the sector’s contribution to the economy, create jobs, and advance India’s standing as a global proponent of sustainable transport solutions.

A New Era for India’s Automotive and Technological Growth:

This move is more than just a corporate milestone as India starts this massive export mission. It supports the country’s rise to prominence as a global leader in innovation, clean technology, and industrial expansion. It is expected that the official EV export rollout program would highlight India’s continuous development and the cooperation between government, business, and research institutions.

With Made-in-India EVs traveling from Asia to Europe and beyond, India’s position in the global EV market is expected to grow in the upcoming years. Modi’s declaration shows India’s desire to assist the global shift to smarter and greener mobility, in addition to serving its own citizens.
