The Mansour Ojjeh McLaren Collection Finds a Single Buyer

TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Mansour Ojjeh, who passed away in June 2021, left behind far more than his reputation as a titan in the business world. To Formula 1 fans, he will forever be remembered as a passionate shareholder, sponsor, and supporter of the sport. His deepest connection was with McLaren, where he played a pivotal role for decades. That connection translated into something extraordinary: the greatest private collection of McLaren road and race cars ever assembled.

New Car Prices Stay High, But Affordable Options Haven’t Disappeared

This collection, long shrouded in exclusivity, has now been sold in its entirety to a single buyer through leading automotive broker Tom Hartley Jnr, who confirmed the deal earlier this week.

A Collection Unlike Any Other

The Mansour Ojjeh McLaren Collection isn’t just a garage of rare supercars; it’s a carefully curated ensemble that embodies Ojjeh’s vision and personal philosophy. Each car in the 19-strong lineup holds unique significance. Rather than choosing the first chassis numbers or special editions, Ojjeh specifically requested the final example of each McLaren model. That alone sets the collection apart as a one-of-one showcase of McLaren’s history.

Even more distinctive is the paintwork. All but two of the cars wear a striking, custom shade called Yquem, which has since become known in collector circles as “Mansour Orange.” It was a color reserved exclusively for Ojjeh, ensuring no one else could replicate his signature style.

Untouched, With Rare Exceptions

For the most part, these McLarens remained untouched, serving as pristine symbols of engineering and design. The only exceptions were the McLaren F1 and the P1 GTR. The F1 famously found itself in the hands of Lewis Hamilton, who gave spirited joyrides to the Ojjeh children. Meanwhile, the P1 GTR lived a more dramatic life, suffering a crash at the Circuit of the Americas during a track session, before being meticulously restored.

The rest of the fleet remained delivery-mileage examples, a fact that makes the collection even more valuable to enthusiasts and investors alike.

Kept Together Against the Odds

In the world of collectible cars, individual chassis often fetch astronomical sums when sold separately. Hartley revealed that several record-breaking offers came in for specific cars, but both his team and the Ojjeh family were adamant about one condition: the collection must remain intact.

“One legendary collection. One historic sale,” Hartley shared on Instagram. “Despite receiving several world-record offers for individual chassis, both the Ojjeh family and my team were committed to keeping this remarkable collection together. A fitting tribute to a legend of a man, a legacy of vision, passion, and automotive excellence.”

Price and Buyer Still a Mystery

Unlike the high-profile Ecclestone Collection—also managed by Hartley and sold for a jaw-dropping $646 million—the final sale price of the Ojjeh McLaren Collection has not been disclosed. Nor has the identity of the buyer been revealed. What is confirmed, however, is that all 19 cars were purchased by a single individual, ensuring that Ojjeh’s vision remains whole.

A Monument to a Passionate Life

More than a sale, this transaction cements Mansour Ojjeh’s lasting imprint on the automotive world. By insisting on keeping the collection together, his family has ensured that it remains not just a set of cars, but a monument to one man’s relentless passion for racing, engineering, and design.
