Do you want to delete old backups from your iCloud and make some room? Follow the guide to know how you can do so and store more on your iCloud. So, let’s get started.
Can we delete old backups from iCloud?
Yes, you can definitely clear out old iCloud backups, and it is quite simple to do. It’s a smart move if your iCloud is almost full or has had enough storage occupied already. Every time you upgrade your iPhone or iPad, the old device’s storage often just sits there taking up space. This is the most common situation that causes people to delete old backups there. Since Apple only gives you 5GB for free, files can really eat up room for no reason, not letting you store things you really want to. Deleting them doesn’t impact the photos or files currently on your phone, as it just removes the safety net for a device you likely don’t even use anymore. Thus, you can proceed with clearing some backup on iCloud when you feel the need to do so.
Steps to delete old backups on iCloud
If you want to delete old backups from your iCloud, then these are the steps that you can follow.
Open Settings
If you have to make big changes like this in your device, you may have to visit the Settings of your device. So, tap on that gear icon and then tap your Name/Apple ID right at the top of your screen.
Go to iCloud
Here, look for the iCloud section and tap on Manage Account Storage. This is the place where you can delete and manage all the backups stored.
Find Backups
Scroll down the list of apps until you see Backups. Tap that to see a list of every device currently linked to your storage. You can assess the devices here.
Select Well
You’ll likely see your current phone and maybe an old iPad or an iPhone that you may have linked in the past. Tap on the name of the old device you no longer need.
Confirm
Tap on Delete & Turn Off Backup. Confirm your choice, and just like that, your chosen device and its backup will be deleted from your iCloud.
This is what you can do when you are using an iPhone. But if you’re on a Mac, it’s slightly easier. You can simply go to System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage, click on Backups, select the old one, and then choose the minus icon.
