World Liberty Financial Strikes Back: Trump-Backed Crypto Firm Sues Justin Sun

The clash between the cryptocurrency company co-founded by President Donald Trump and its biggest backer has boiled over. On Monday, World Liberty Financial filed a sweeping defamation lawsuit against crypto billionaire Justin Sun. Lodged in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, Florida, the action accuses the Tron founder of orchestrating a malicious public smear campaign to cripple the business. The lawsuit represents a dramatic escalation in a bitter feud that has captivated the decentralized finance world and sent shockwaves through the digital asset market.

A Scorched Earth Campaign

According to the official complaint, relations between the two parties completely disintegrated when World Liberty Financial refused to bow to aggressive backroom threats. Attorneys representing the platform claim Sun launched a calculated pressure campaign to extract hundreds of millions of dollars from the startup. When the company stood its ground, Sun allegedly ordered his legal counsel to threaten litigation that would “light World Liberty on fire.” Following the firm’s refusal to capitulate, Sun took his grievances to social media, initiating what the lawsuit describes as a coordinated effort to ruin the venture’s public reputation.

Allegations of Market Manipulation

The heart of World Liberty Financial’s lawsuit goes far beyond simple name-calling. According to the company, Sun has taken steps to devalue the $WLFI token, the company’s native cryptocurrency. The lawsuit alleges that Sun has conducted prohibited short sales, betting against the same project he originally invested in. In addition, the firm alleges that Sun made unauthorized straw purchases through third parties in order to hide his true identity and quietly acquire more digital assets. In order to protect the entire ecosystem, World Liberty has used an embedded smart contract function to freeze all of the tokens that are owned and controlled by companies affiliated with Sun.

Accusations of Bot Networks

This lawsuit for defamation sets forth damaging false allegations made by the cryptocurrency mogul in front of his millions of followers on X. Sun stated that World Liberty Financial (WLF) is treating all their investors as if they were a personal ATM. The complaint states these false statements were made by Sun and with a complete disregard for the truth. The complaint also averred that Sun established a network of automated bot accounts and hired internet influencers to artificially inflate his misleading account which resulted in a substantial amount of false, damaging media coverage of this new cryptocurrency platform.

Justin Sun Brushes Off the Lawsuit

Sun has not recanted since facing A New challenge through A legitimate court system. Recently he publicly responded through his social media pages (Facebook, Twitter) and dismissed as baseless the defamation lawsuit against him and is merely a Public Relations stunt devised to bring attention away from their internal problems with how they run the company and its business. “I stand by my actions and look forward to defeating the case in court,” he confidently stated. Following his well-publicized buy of a banana duct taped to a wall for $6.2 million on 22023, Sun has claimed that his public comments and actions are completely justified.

The Roots of the Legal War

The recent maneuver is a simultaneous strike back against Sun’s own lawsuit just weeks prior. In April, Sun filed a fraud lawsuit against World Liberty Financial for illegally locking his tokens and stripping him of his ability to vote. Sun claimed he originally invested roughly $75 million to support the platform, only to have his massive digital holdings unjustly seized in an extortion scheme. With both high-profile lawsuits now moving through the federal and state courts, the financial community is closely watching how this billion-dollar clash will impact the future of political cryptocurrency projects.
