Why do old Android phones slow down?

Old Android phones slow down because their hardware becomes outdated after a certain period of time. Every time you update an app or the operating system, you get new features designed for newer, faster processors. Over time, these updates demand more processing power and memory than your old phone can comfortably give. This is the reason that the hardware cannot keep up with the ongoing software. At the same time, apps accumulate cached data and background processes that quietly hog your random access memory. And even your physical phone changes. The flash storage chips degrade after years of reading and writing data, making it take longer to open files and give slower processing. Therefore, it can be called a mix of incompatibility that often gives this result.

Ways to speed up an old phone

If your old phone is lagging, here are a few ways you can follow to speed it up.

Uninstall apps you do not use

This is the most straightforward and go-to method. Apps often run hidden background processes that eat up your phone’s memory even when you are not actively using them.

Light versions of apps

Lite versions are often the saviours. Many major platforms offer dialed-down versions of their software built specifically for older devices with less memory. They perform the basic functions perfectly without the heavy background code.

Clean up your internal storage

Keep clearing internal storage. A phone needs a buffer of free space to move temporary files around smoothly. You can take help of cloud services to keep your device free of excess files.

Clear cached data

Cached data is an easy thing to delete. You can go into your storage settings to wipe the temporary files built up by browser sessions and heavy social media apps.

Manually delete

Look for heavy files, videos, audio files, and images that may be taking up space on your device. If you need them, keep them; you can also delete them if they are not important anymore. This helps push smarter and smoother work on the device.

If your Android still lags somewhere, you can think about getting an expert to have a look at the exact problem.
