Luxury SUV buyers in the United States continue to favor familiar names, with the Lexus RX once again claiming the top spot in the first half of 2026. Fresh sales figures reveal that established premium brands still dominate the market, while newer entrants are quickly carving out their place.
The rankings highlight a growing preference for SUVs that combine everyday practicality with premium comfort. From compact crossovers to spacious three-row family haulers, every vehicle in this year’s top 10 reflects the continued demand for luxury SUVs over traditional sedans.
Lexus RX Extends Its Winning Streak
The Lexus RX remains America’s bestselling luxury SUV after recording 59,904 units sold during the first half of 2026. The model has enjoyed decades of success, thanks to its reputation for comfort, reliability, and refined driving experience.
Its broad lineup also plays a major role in its popularity. Buyers can choose from conventional gasoline models as well as multiple hybrid variants, making the RX appealing to customers looking for better fuel efficiency without giving up premium features.
BMW and Mercedes Stay Close Behind
BMW secured two spots in the top three with the X5 and X3. The X5 recorded 41,554 sales, benefiting from strong customer demand despite an all-new generation expected in the near future. Meanwhile, the redesigned X3 reached 37,761 units, showing that buyers have embraced its updated styling and technology.
Mercedes-Benz also maintained a strong presence. The GLE-Class sold 37,008 units, while the GLC-Class followed closely with 34,895 units. Both SUVs continue to attract buyers seeking luxury, performance, and advanced technology, even as refreshed models prepare to enter the market.
Lexus Expands Beyond the RX
Lexus wasn’t content with just one bestseller. The brand also placed the TX and NX among the nation’s top-selling luxury SUVs.
The three-row TX posted 28,112 sales, proving there was strong demand for a dedicated family-focused SUV after Lexus retired the RX L. The smaller NX reached 30,763 units, helped by its mix of gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains that appeal to a wide range of buyers.
Three-Row SUVs Continue to Gain Momentum
Family-oriented luxury SUVs continue to attract buyers. The Acura MDX sold 24,102 units, maintaining its position as one of the segment’s longest-running success stories.
The Volvo XC90, despite being on the market for nearly a decade, remained competitive with 22,538 sales, showing that thoughtful updates have kept it relevant. Close behind was the Buick Enclave, which rounded out the top ten with 22,203 units, demonstrating that premium value remains an important factor for many shoppers.
