Do you want to reset your Windows without losing any files? Follow the guide to learn how to easily reset your Windows without compromising anything on the device. So, let’s get started.
Ways to reset Windows without losing files
It is a pretty simple method. And you can follow it too.
In Windows
The first approach is to use the built-in Keep My Files feature through Windows Settings. To enable that, just dive into Settings, select System, click Recovery, and choose Reset this PC. Pick Keep my files when prompted. Windows will reinstall the operating system, remove installed apps and third-party drivers, and reset your settings, but your personal files remain completely safe in their original folders.
Make a Choice
You can also choose between a Local Reinstall or a Cloud Download during the settings reset process. Local reinstall rebuilds the OS using existing system files stored on your hard drive, which is also faster. Cloud download fetches a fresh copy directly from Microsoft servers. This is actually a good idea if the files are suspicious.
Upgrade
You can also go for running a Windows In-Place Upgrade using the Media Creation Tool or an ISO file. Just download the Windows installation tool from Microsoft’s official site, run the setup, and select Upgrade this PC now. While doing so, make sure the option to Keep personal files and apps is checked before starting. Unlike a standard reset, this method actually preserves your installed software and desktop apps along with your personal files while fixing deep system errors.
Reset
Another way is to manually trigger a reset directly from the Windows Recovery Environment if your computer cannot boot into the desktop normally. Turn on your PC, hold down the power button to force a shutdown as soon as the Windows logo appears, and repeat this twice. On the third boot, Windows enters Advanced Startup. From there, navigate to Troubleshoot, choose Reset this PC, and select Keep my files. This will keep them safe.
System Restore
You can also make good use of System Restore if you created a restore point before your issues began. Search for Create a restore point in the taskbar, open System Protection, and click System Restore. This takes care of your system settings, drivers, and updates to a previous healthy state without touching any of your documents or personal files at all, keeping the space and the files totally safe and untouched.
