After that, it creates a unique, temporary Blockchain wallet address along with a QR code to capture the respective currency amount and the destination address so that this invoice can be presented to the customer to approve the transaction. In order to finalize the payments, the buyer has to scan the QR code and provide the payment in the app of your choice.

At this point, the transaction is digitally verified with the help of the customer’s crypto wallet private key and propagated through the decentralized network.

After the announcement, the automated infrastructure of the gateway kicks in and confirms the blockchain transaction. All automated nodes keep track of the blockchain network and constantly check it for the existence of the transaction. Depending on the type of blockchain in use, the gateway must wait for a given number of confirmations to ensure beyond doubt that the transaction took place. The gateway then automatically converts the raw cryptocurrency into the merchant’s preferred currency and deposits the settled funds directly into the merchant’s bank account according to their customized payout schedule.

Solving the Volatility Problem

The single biggest objection that traditional merchants historically had to accepting digital currencies was the extreme threat of price volatility. No rational business owner wants to accept one hundred dollars’ worth of Bitcoin for a physical product, only for broader market fluctuations to crash its value down to eighty dollars by the time they wake up the next morning. It makes inventory management and profit margin calculations virtually impossible.

Crypto payment gateways flawlessly eliminate this financial risk through automated, instant conversion mechanisms. Once the customer sends a payment in one’s cryptocurrency, the gateway is able to hedge or swap the asset on deep liquidity pools or in partner exchanges, where the operational back-end of the gateway locks-in the exchange rate. The process of converting volatile tokens to fiat or fully backed stablecoins allows the gateway to shield the merchant from all market fluctuations. Thus, the company receives exactly the payment amount mentioned on its product page (with just a minor processing fee), so that accepting cryptocurrencies is as predictable and safe as credit card transactions.
