Weekly Startup Funding News: Indian startups raised $196 Mn this week; from Emiza to Leap

India’s startup funding landscape lost momentum in the fourth week of July, with fewer deals and a sharper concentration of capital in a handful of large investments. While total funding remained above the $200 million mark, the numbers reveal a market where investors are becoming increasingly selective, favoring mature startups with proven business models over early-stage ventures.

Between July 18 and July 24, Indian startups collectively raised $209.1 million, marking a 26% decline from the $281.4 million secured during the previous week. More notably, deal activity dropped from 24 funding rounds to just 14, highlighting a slowdown in investor participation across the broader startup ecosystem.

Four Mega Deals Stole the Spotlight

Although the weekly funding total appeared healthy at first glance, a closer look reveals that the majority of capital flowed into just four startups.

Manufacturing unicorn Zetwerk led the week by raising $52 million in a pre-IPO round backed by Bharat Value Fund (Pantomath Group). The funding alone contributed nearly one-fourth of the week’s total capital, reinforcing investor confidence in companies preparing for public listings.

Fintech startup Veriqus secured $40.1 million from Norwest, while enterprise software company BUSINESSNEXT raised $40 million in a Series C round led by ServiceNow Ventures. Aerospace manufacturer Raghu Vamsi Aerospace rounded out the top four with another $40 million, attracting investments from Norwest, Skegen Asset Management, Indus Bridge Ventures, GJNX Ventures, and investor Ashish Kacholia.

Together, these four startups accounted for $172.1 million, or more than 80% of the week’s total funding, leaving only about $37 million to be shared among the remaining ten funded startups.

Enterprise Startups Continue to Win Investor Confidence

The week’s funding trends reflected investors’ continued preference for enterprise-focused businesses.

The Enterprise Services sector emerged as the largest recipient of funding thanks to Zetwerk’s massive round, while Enterprise Tech followed closely with $50 million raised across two companies. BUSINESSNEXT’s Series C funding highlighted growing investor demand for enterprise SaaS platforms that serve businesses rather than consumers.

Another notable enterprise-focused startup was CARPL.ai, which raised $10 million in a Series A round led by the International Finance Corporation and Stellaris Venture Partners. The company develops AI-powered imaging solutions for healthcare providers, demonstrating that specialized enterprise applications continue to attract institutional capital.

The overall trend suggests investors are increasingly backing startups with established revenues, scalable business models, and clear profitability paths instead of betting heavily on speculative growth.

AI Funding Takes a Sharp Fall

Perhaps the biggest surprise this week was the dramatic decline in AI investments.

Just a week earlier, AI startups accounted for nearly 60% of total funding. This week, however, the sector managed only a single disclosed funding round.

Application-layer AI startup FireAI secured approximately $259,000 from SucSEED Indovation Fund, representing a dramatic drop in investor enthusiasm compared to recent weeks.

While AI remains one of the hottest technology sectors globally, the week’s numbers indicate that Indian investors may be becoming more cautious, focusing on startups with stronger commercial traction rather than funding AI companies simply because they operate in a trending category.

Early-Stage Funding Remains Limited

The slowdown was particularly evident among early-stage startups.

Only three seed-stage companies raised capital, collectively securing about $1.8 million. Medical equipment startup Bioscan Research led the category with a $1 million seed round from Unicorn India Ventures.

Meanwhile, consumer startups also saw selective funding. Quick-commerce platform Plazza raised $15 million in a Series A round backed by Accel, Elevation Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, All In Capital, and Better Capital. Travel startup 30 Sundays secured $6.7 million, while ecommerce brand LNGVTY raised a modest seed investment from Rukam Capital.

The relatively small number of seed investments indicates that investors continue to prioritize capital efficiency and are becoming increasingly selective when evaluating young startups.

Investors Double Down on Conviction Bets

Several investors appeared more interested in strengthening relationships with existing sectors rather than expanding into new areas.

Norwest backed both Veriqus and Raghu Vamsi Aerospace, making it one of the week’s most active venture firms. Likewise, Rukam Capital invested in both LNGVTY and aerospace startup Khageshvara Aviation Technology.

This pattern reflects a broader trend in venture capital, where investors increasingly concentrate their capital on high-conviction opportunities rather than spreading investments across numerous startups.

IPO Pipeline Continues to Grow

Despite slower private funding, India’s IPO pipeline remained active.

Edtech company Klassroom announced its SME IPO with a price band of ₹151-159 per share, targeting a valuation of ₹148.1 crore while aiming to raise ₹39 crore.

Meanwhile, adtech unicorn InMobi reportedly appointed JPMorgan Chase, Jefferies, Kotak Mahindra Capital, and Axis Capital to manage its proposed $1 billion IPO, signaling that India’s public market pipeline remains robust despite fluctuations in venture funding.

Capital Markets Stay Active Beyond Venture Funding

The broader startup ecosystem also witnessed significant capital activity outside traditional funding rounds.

Electric scooter manufacturer Ather Energy raised approximately ₹1,300 crore through a qualified institutional placement as part of a larger ₹2,500 crore fundraising plan. The proceeds will support debt reduction, research and development, and marketing initiatives.

At the same time, Transition VC launched its second investment fund with a target corpus of ₹1,500 crore to back engineering-led startups focused on energy transition, advanced manufacturing, and industrial deeptech. Separately, fintech SaaS company Zaggle approved a strategic investment of up to ₹7.97 crore in digital banking platform Unobanc, further highlighting continued investor confidence in fintech innovation.

Although overall startup funding slowed this week, the strength of large enterprise deals, a growing IPO pipeline, and fresh venture funds indicate that capital is still available for businesses demonstrating strong fundamentals. Rather than signaling weakness, the week’s activity reflects a venture market that is becoming more disciplined, rewarding startups with scalable business models, sustainable growth, and long-term profitability.
