SoftBank Group is trimming its investment in Lenskart Solutions, with its affiliate SVF II Lightbulb (Cayman) selling a 2.58 percent stake in the omnichannel eyewear company through block deals on August 24, 2026.

The transaction involved 4.5 crore Lenskart shares worth approximately ₹2,887.87 crore. The shares changed hands at ₹641.75 apiece among 25 domestic and global investors.

The sale comes even as Lenskart’s stock has broadly maintained an upward trend since mid-May, although the rally has been accompanied by intermittent corrections and periods of volatility. Following Monday’s block deals, the stock remained relatively stable, falling just 0.25 percent to ₹659.75 amid heavy trading activity.

Who Bought Lenskart Shares?

The large block transaction attracted several prominent institutional investors, highlighting continued interest in Lenskart among global and domestic funds.

France-based Societe Generale ODI emerged as the largest buyer, purchasing 1.07 crore shares, equivalent to a 0.61 percent stake in Lenskart. The investment was worth around ₹688.9 crore.

Goldman Sachs was the second-largest buyer, acquiring 84.31 lakh shares for approximately ₹541.06 crore. Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund also made a significant purchase, picking up 47.71 lakh shares worth ₹306.17 crore.

The Vanguard Group, one of the world’s largest asset managers, purchased another 37.28 lakh shares for approximately ₹239.2 crore.

Together, these purchases demonstrate that SoftBank’s stake sale was absorbed by a broad group of institutional investors rather than a single strategic buyer.

Several Global and Domestic Funds Join the Deal

The remaining shares were distributed among a wide range of investors. Morgan Stanley, Integrated Core Strategies (Asia), Sundaram Mutual Fund, SBI Mutual Fund, Wasatch Advisors, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System and the Kuwait Investment Authority were among the investors participating in the transaction.

Indian asset managers including Nippon India, HDFC Mutual Fund, HSBC Mutual Fund and ICICI Prudential AMC also purchased shares.

In total, these investors acquired approximately 1.73 crore shares, representing close to 1 percent of Lenskart’s paid-up equity.

The diversity of buyers makes the transaction particularly noteworthy. It indicates that Lenskart continues to attract institutional interest from both India and overseas, even as one of its prominent early investors reduces its exposure.

SoftBank’s Lenskart Holding Falls

According to Lenskart’s June 2026 shareholding pattern, SoftBank held approximately 9.86 percent of the company’s equity before the block deal.

After selling 4.5 crore shares, its stake appears to have declined to around 7.28 percent. Despite the reduction, SoftBank remains a significant shareholder in the eyewear company.

The stake sale can also be viewed in the broader context of SoftBank’s investment strategy. The Japanese technology conglomerate has frequently monetised portions of its holdings in portfolio companies as businesses mature or market conditions create opportunities to realise gains.

For Lenskart, however, the transaction does not necessarily signal weakening investor confidence. The shares sold by SoftBank were quickly absorbed by institutional buyers, including several major international investment firms.

What the Block Deal Means for Lenskart

The transaction comes at an important stage for Lenskart as it continues expanding its omnichannel eyewear business. The company combines physical retail stores with its online platform, giving customers multiple ways to purchase eyewear and access services.

The strong participation from institutional investors suggests that the company’s growth story continues to attract attention. At the same time, the immediate stock-price reaction remained muted, indicating that investors largely absorbed the large transaction without a major sell-off.

For SoftBank, the deal represents a partial exit rather than a complete withdrawal. With an estimated 7.28 percent holding remaining, the Japanese investment giant continues to have substantial exposure to Lenskart.

A Closely Watched Stake Sale

The ₹2,887.87-crore block deal highlights the changing ownership landscape around one of India’s prominent consumer technology companies. SoftBank’s reduction gives new institutional investors greater exposure to Lenskart while allowing the Japanese conglomerate to monetise part of its investment.

With major names such as Societe Generale, Goldman Sachs, Vanguard and several Indian mutual funds participating, the transaction also underlines the growing institutional interest surrounding Lenskart.

Going forward, investors will be watching whether SoftBank continues to reduce its stake and how Lenskart’s stock performs after the large block transaction. For now, the deal has reshaped the company’s shareholder mix without causing a major immediate disruption to its stock price.
