The Compass is one of the most valuable Legendary Artifacts in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Unlike artifacts tied to one guaranteed pickup, the Compass can appear inside large fields filled with gravitational anomalies. That means finding it requires some searching and a little luck.
A good place to begin is the Lesser Zone, where you can check several anomaly fields without traveling deep into the game world. Deaf Meadow and the Ribs are both known locations where the Compass can spawn. If you have progressed into Zaton, Izumrudne and the Claw are also useful locations to search.
The key thing to remember is that these locations are not guaranteed Compass spawns. They are areas where the artifact can appear. You may find another artifact instead, so do not assume you are searching in the wrong place.
How to Search for the Compass
You need a Detector to locate artifacts hidden within anomaly fields. When you reach a suitable gravitational anomaly, equip your Detector and carefully move around the area. Watch its signals as you approach the artifact, while also keeping an eye on the anomalies around you.
Gravitational anomalies can be extremely dangerous. Vortexes and other hazards can throw you around or cause serious damage if you move carelessly. Take your time and avoid rushing toward the Detector’s signal.
For an early search, try this simple route:
- Visit Deaf Meadow in the Lesser Zone.
- Search the gravitational anomaly field with your Detector.
- Check the Ribs if the Compass does not appear.
- Later, search Izumrudne and the nearby Claw in Zaton.
Because Izumrudne and the Claw are relatively close together, they are particularly convenient for artifact hunting.
How Compass Spawns Work
The Compass is a random Legendary Artifact from gravitational anomaly fields, so there is no quest that guarantees you one. If another artifact appears, you will need to search another suitable field or return after the area has refreshed.
Artifact availability can change after an Emission. Therefore, if you have already searched several locations without finding the Compass, continuing your journey and returning later can be more productive than repeatedly checking the same field.
Older guides also mention using quick saves and reloads to reroll artifacts. However, this method does not consistently work with current versions of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, so it is better not to depend on it.
What Does the Compass Do?
The Compass provides maximum Physical Protection, making it extremely useful when you expect to take heavy physical damage. Its major drawback is maximum Radiation. In other words, the artifact offers excellent protection, but wearing it without handling the radiation buildup can quickly create another problem.
You can manage the radiation by using suitable radiation protection, consumables, or equipment designed to reduce the effect. A Lead Container is another option for storing radioactive artifacts safely when you do not need to equip them.
The Compass can therefore be especially valuable for difficult fights or dangerous areas. However, its usefulness depends on your armor, artifact slots, and ability to manage radiation.
Tips for Getting the Compass
Artifact hunting becomes much easier if you prepare before entering an anomaly field. Carry healing items, radiation protection, and a reliable Detector. Avoid carrying unnecessary equipment when you know you will be spending time exploring dangerous anomaly zones.
If you are still early in the game, start with the Lesser Zone locations. There is no need to travel across the entire map immediately. If you have already unlocked Zaton, the Izumrudne and Claw route gives you another efficient pair of locations to check.
