Dual wielding pistols is finally possible in Cyberpunk 2077. With the Edgerunners 2.5 update, players can equip two compatible handguns and fire them together, creating a gunslinger playstyle that fits perfectly into Night City’s chaotic combat. However, this ability is not available automatically. You must unlock a specific perk, meet its requirements, and equip weapons that support dual wielding.

Here is everything you need to know about unlocking and using this ability.
How to Unlock Dual Wielding in Cyberpunk 2077
To dual wield pistols, you need the Double Trouble perk in the Cool attribute tree. This perk was introduced in update 2.5, so make sure your game is updated before attempting to unlock it.
Follow these steps:
- Launch Cyberpunk 2077 and load your save.
- Open the Character menu and navigate to the Cool attribute tree.
- Raise your Cool attribute to level 9.
- Locate the Double Trouble perk.
- Spend one Perk Point to unlock its first rank.
Once you unlock the perk, you can equip two compatible weapons and use them together in combat.
Remember that reaching character level 9 alone is not enough. The requirement specifically concerns your Cool attribute. If you cannot find Double Trouble in the skill tree, check your attribute level and make sure you have installed the correct game update.
Which Pistols Can You Dual Wield?
Although dual wielding is now available, Cyberpunk 2077 does not allow every firearm to be used this way. The standard Double Trouble perk supports Power Pistols and Power Revolvers.
You can combine compatible weapons in different ways, including:
- Two Power Pistols of the same type.
- Two different Power Pistols.
- Two compatible Power Revolvers.
- A Power Pistol paired with a Power Revolver.
This gives you flexibility when building your loadout. You can carry matching weapons for a consistent shooting style or combine different firearms to suit your preferences.
However, Smart Pistols, Tech Pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, and other firearm categories are not supported by the standard perk. You will need a suitable gameplay modification if you want to experiment with those combinations.
How to Equip Two Pistols
After unlocking Double Trouble, open your inventory and select your weapons. Equip a compatible Power Pistol or Power Revolver in your primary weapon slot, then select a second compatible handgun for the additional weapon slot provided by the dual-wielding system.
Check that both weapons are equipped correctly before entering combat. If the game does not allow a particular combination, verify the weapon categories and ensure Double Trouble is unlocked.
Once your loadout is ready, return to the game and test the weapons against enemies. You can now use both firearms together instead of switching between individual pistols.
How to Improve Your Dual-Wielding Build
Double Trouble also has a second rank. Investing another Perk Point unlocks Heywood Hurricane, a special move that rapidly fires both weapons for a short period and can replenish ammunition when your shots connect.
Additional perks improve the dual-wielding playstyle by helping with accuracy, stamina management, and combat performance.
For a stronger build, consider these tips:
- Invest in the Cool attribute to unlock the necessary perks.
- Choose accurate Power Pistols that suit your preferred combat range.
- Carry weapons with useful complementary effects.
- Improve your aim before relying on rapid, close-range attacks.
- Use cover when fighting groups of heavily armed enemies.
These choices can make dual wielding more effective without forcing you to abandon your preferred gunslinger playstyle.
Is Dual Wielding Worth It?
Dual wielding offers an exciting alternative to traditional pistol combat, but it is not automatically stronger than using one weapon. Each gun deals reduced damage while dual wielding, so firing more bullets does not necessarily mean eliminating enemies faster.
The ability works best for players who enjoy aggressive combat and want to experiment with different weapon combinations. It also gives pistol-focused builds another way to approach encounters throughout Night City.
