InsuranceDekho’s co-founders Ankit Agrawal and Ish Babbar are reportedly considering stepping away from their roles at the insurance distribution company following differences with the board over the company’s strategic direction.

According to reports, discussions are underway to determine whether the founders can continue with InsuranceDekho in some capacity. The developments come as the company prepares for a pre-IPO funding round, underlining its efforts to strengthen the business ahead of a potential public listing.

However, InsuranceDekho has officially denied reports that its founders are planning to exit the company.

Founders reportedly clash with board over strategy

The reported differences between Agrawal, Babbar and the company’s board are understood to be linked to the strategic direction of InsuranceDekho as the business enters a new phase of growth.

While the founders could potentially step back from their current responsibilities, discussions are reportedly focused on finding a role that would allow them to remain associated with the company.

The development reflects a broader shift at InsuranceDekho as it moves toward a more professionally managed structure. Such a transition could see day-to-day operations increasingly led by professional executives while the founders take on a different role, subject to the outcome of ongoing discussions.

For now, however, the company has rejected speculation about a founder exit, meaning the reported discussions have not translated into any confirmed leadership change.

InsuranceDekho plans ₹100-150 crore pre-IPO round

Alongside the leadership developments, InsuranceDekho is preparing to raise between ₹100 crore and ₹150 crore in a pre-IPO funding round, according to reports.

The company is looking to raise the capital at its current valuation, suggesting that the upcoming round is aimed at strengthening its financial position without seeking a significant valuation reset.

The fundraising could also become an important step as InsuranceDekho prepares for the next stage of its corporate journey. A pre-IPO round can help companies bolster their balance sheets, support expansion and attract investors before entering the public markets.

InsuranceDekho’s ability to raise fresh capital at its existing valuation will therefore be closely watched as the company builds toward a potential IPO.

InsuranceDekho has built a nationwide insurance network

Founded in 2017, InsuranceDekho initially focused on expanding insurance access in India’s tier-two and smaller cities. Over the years, the company has built a large distribution network connecting more than six million customers with over 380 insurance products.

Its business has expanded significantly following its recent merger with RenewBuy. The combination has created what the companies describe as India’s largest AI-powered insurance distribution platform, with a network covering nearly every PIN code in the country.

The expanded footprint gives the merged business access to both urban and rural markets while allowing it to offer a broader range of insurance products to customers.

The company now handles more than ₹6,600 crore in premiums, highlighting the scale it has achieved since entering the market.

Merger creates a larger platform ahead of IPO

The RenewBuy merger is expected to play an important role in InsuranceDekho’s next phase. By combining their networks and technology capabilities, the businesses can potentially improve distribution efficiency while reaching customers in markets that remain underserved by traditional insurance channels.

The emphasis on artificial intelligence also reflects the insurance sector’s growing shift toward technology-led distribution. Digital platforms can help insurers and distributors identify customers, recommend products and streamline policy purchases across a geographically diverse market like India.

As InsuranceDekho moves closer to a potential IPO, the company faces two parallel priorities: building a scalable business and establishing a professional management structure capable of taking it through its next stage of growth.

For now, the reported founder discussions remain unresolved, while the planned ₹100-150 crore funding round could provide the company with additional capital as it prepares for the public markets.
