Weapon Manuals are among the most valuable items to find in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. They allow players to unlock weapons permanently at the Gunsmith, making it easier to build custom loadouts for future deployments. However, finding these manuals is not always easy. They appear as loot during missions, and there is no guaranteed location where every manual will spawn.

What Are Weapon Manuals in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ?
Weapon Manuals are special loot items that unlock the ability to purchase a specific weapon at the Gunsmith. Once you extract successfully with a manual, the corresponding weapon becomes available for future purchases.
This system is different from simply collecting a gun during a raid. Extracting with a weapon gives you that particular weapon, but losing it later does not permanently unlock its weapon type. A Weapon Manual provides a lasting unlock instead.
There are 28 Weapon Manuals to collect, giving players a clear long-term goal as they explore the DMZ map.
Where to Find Weapon Manuals
Weapon Manuals can appear as random loot across Hajin. However, certain containers and dangerous areas are worth prioritizing when searching for them.
1. Search Safes
Safes are among the best places to start looking for Weapon Manuals. Explore buildings and compounds, paying attention to areas that contain valuable loot. Open every safe you can access, as manuals do not have a guaranteed spawn.
Some safes may require extra time or expose you to enemy attacks. Make sure the surrounding area is reasonably secure before opening one.
2. Check Military Containers and Weapon Lockers
Military containers are another important source of Weapon Manuals. Search green military crates, weapon lockers, and similar containers during your deployments.
Military locations can contain several searchable containers close together. This makes them useful for players who want to check multiple loot sources without travelling across the entire map.
3. Explore High-Threat Areas
High-threat areas are marked in red on the tactical map. These locations are dangerous because they can attract well-equipped enemies and other players, but they are worth exploring when you want valuable loot.
Search strongholds, police stations, armories, and locked rooms whenever it is safe to do so. These locations offer additional containers and may improve your chances of finding rare items.
Remember that a high-threat area does not guarantee a Weapon Manual. Be prepared to leave empty-handed.
How to Secure a Weapon Manual
Finding a Weapon Manual is only half the job. You must extract with it to receive the permanent weapon unlock.
Follow these steps:
- Deploy into Hajin and search safes, military containers, and weapon lockers.
- Check your inventory when you find an item labelled as a Weapon Manual.
- Move the manual into a Secure Slot if one is available.
- Avoid unnecessary fights and head towards an extraction point.
- Complete the extraction successfully to unlock the corresponding weapon.
A Secure Slot is particularly useful because it protects the item if you fail to extract. If you do not have one available, consider leaving the area immediately rather than risking the manual for additional loot.
How to Use Weapon Manuals
Once you successfully extract, return to the Forward Operating Base (FOB). Open the Gunsmith station and look for the weapon unlocked by your manual.
The Gunsmith becomes available at DMZ Player Level 10. From there, you can purchase eligible weapons using DMZ Cash and build custom configurations with available attachments.
Each weapon has its own costs, and unlocking a manual does not mean every attachment is automatically available. You may need to level up the weapon and spend additional cash to complete your preferred build.
