Sky smart Glass TV has been streaming through roofs but hold on to your popcorn because things are getting exciting! If You think that Sky has no serious competitor yet, you are wrong because now Amazon is on the scene. Yes, the online retail giant is adding something interesting to Fire TVs and it’s going to revolutionize the way we watch television – without burning a hole in our pockets.
Enter Freely – Your New TV Buddy
Last spring, a new web service appeared in the network, the Freely service was designed to organize access to live and on-demand television channels without using subscriptions. For the first time, Freely became accessible only for several TVs produced by the Chinese manufacturer Hisense.
Retailers now know that Freely will become integrated into Fire TVs from this autumn, which has been confirmed by Amazon. So, if you own an Amazon Fire TV, get ready for some blockbuster news: This will mean that you’re going to be able to watch programmes from BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and UKTV without having to put up an aerial.
But There’s A Catch
Freely will not be available as an update on all existing Fire TVs.
This suggests that current Fire TV models (those released before Autumn 2024) won’t receive the Freely feature via a software update. So, if someone already owns a Fire TV, they might not get access to this new service.
Freely will only be available on specific new models.
The feature will be exclusive to 2024 Series 2 and 4 models, starting from Autumn 2024 and beyond. This means Amazon is focusing on new hardware for this rollout and not retrofitting older devices.
More Than Just Streaming
With its help, we’re not only offering you the channels, but also power to manage them. Imagine this: You are right in the middle of an interesting episode and then the doorbell or the cat rings. No worries! Freely allows live TV to be paused making sure you don’t lose track of continuing shows. In addition Freeview has your complete program schedule with Now and Next to guide you on what is currently on and what is next on air.
Or the countless hours scrolling. You know those nights you sit dreaming with your fingers aimlessly scrolling through the shows but never settling to watch any? These are the kind of recommendations that you get from Freely, which will prevent you from going through that headache of looking for what is good to watch without the boring ella.
Is there a Good Connection between Amazon and Freely?
So when it comes to simplifying things for viewers Amazon has jumped on the bandwagon wholeheartedly. Emma Gilmartin, Director of Fire TV Europe, at Amazon is as excited as we are with this partnership. She added, “This new deal for Freely will help create even more value to our customers.” Exactly that is what Amazon is interested in – to provide you with access to the best free TV shows, films & Live channels along with the content you already know and love in Fire TV.
It appears the team behind Freely is also more than excited about the idea, whose time seems to be now. Jonathan Thompson from Everyone TV, which operates Freely, said he is happy and called cooperation with Amazon the start of a new endeavor. He is sure that Freely will provide great content for the UK audience and help to combine what was starting to be divided divided view.
The Future of TV Is… Freely!
This update is a big break for anyone who is a big fan of TV shows in the United Kingdom. From drama and comedies to documentaries and live events, viewers are well catered for by what Freely offers. And the best part? You don’t have to pay any additional fees for using this source; there aren’t any subscriptions to pay for, thankfully.
Well, this means that Sky may just have some competition in the near future. That is not the case if you are already an Amazon Fire TV owner, or are considering switching to one. This massive free update will arrive on your screen soon and improve your TV experience even further.
Therefore, the future of watching TV looks Freely-tastic – and who wouldn’t love it? After all, there’s nothing quite like knowing that the TV shows they love are available without having to commit big bucks.
