India is the tenth country after nations like the US, the UK, Canada, Spain and Italy to get the subscription service.

“India is a very important market for us. Readers here are reading books across genres of literature, fiction, health, productivity, business and economics, biographies and children books on their Kindle devices and app,” Amazon Kindle Director (Content) Sanjeev Jha told PTI.

With Unlimited, Kindle is making reading more accessible than ever, he added.

“For less than the average price of one hardcover bestseller, we’ve made the best digital library in the world available to every corner of India. Whether it is thrillers, romance novels, Sci-Fi or children’s books, with Kindle Unlimited everyone will have the chance to discover not only well-established but also new authors of every genre,” he said.

Jha said India is among the top markets globally for book publishing industry as well as for English language content.

“People are now reading voraciously on electronic devices as well… we are witnessing 200 per cent growth on both Kindle device and app,” he added.

Amazon will also allow consumers to sign up for six months for Rs 999 and Rs 1,799 (for 12 months).

The Kindle service can be accessed on Kindle devices and Kindle reading apps for iPhone, iPad, Android tablets and phones, PC and Mac.
