Anthropic’s AI Business Booms, Surpassing $3 Billion in Annualized Revenue
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Just a few months ago, artificial intelligence startup Anthropic was pacing steadily with nearly $1 billion in annualized revenue. Now, it has catapulted into a whole new league—hitting a staggering $3 billion run rate by the end of May 2025. This rapid growth is more than just a financial milestone; it signals a shift in how businesses are embracing AI technology.

According to individuals familiar with the company’s performance, Anthropic crossed the $2 billion threshold in March before adding another billion to its annualized figure just two months later. Much of this success is being fueled not by flashy consumer apps, but by a quiet revolution inside the workplace—where businesses are turning to Anthropic’s AI models for serious tasks, especially in software development.

AI That Writes Code: A Game-Changer for Businesses

One of Anthropic’s biggest strengths lies in its ability to help companies write code. Its AI models have become increasingly popular among businesses looking to automate software development tasks. This area of AI, often referred to as “code generation,” has seen a spike in adoption over the past several months, with Anthropic emerging as a go-to provider.

Backed by tech powerhouses like Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and Amazon, the San Francisco-based startup has carved out a name for itself with tools that are more than just digital assistants—they’re problem solvers. And that appeal is proving lucrative. Businesses aren’t just experimenting with these tools anymore; they’re integrating them into their operations.

Outpacing SaaS Benchmarks

Anthropic’s growth is catching the attention of investors and industry watchers alike. Alex Clayton, a general partner at venture firm Meritech Capital, said he hasn’t seen anything like it. “We’ve analyzed IPOs from over 200 software companies. This kind of growth rate just doesn’t happen,” Clayton remarked. Though not personally invested in Anthropic, his comparison underscores the company’s rapid rise.

For context, it took cloud computing giant Snowflake six quarters to grow its annualized revenue from $1 billion to $2 billion. Anthropic did that—and more—in just half that time. While some of its revenue comes from consumer subscriptions to its Claude chatbot, most of its growth appears to stem from enterprise customers buying access to its models and tools.

A Different Path Than OpenAI

Though Anthropic and OpenAI both build generative AI tools, they’re not following the same path. OpenAI has become a household name thanks to its popular chatbot ChatGPT, which consumers use for everything from writing emails to answering trivia. Most of OpenAI’s revenue reportedly comes from paid subscriptions to that chatbot.

Anthropic, on the other hand, is seeing stronger traction with businesses rather than individual users. Its Claude chatbot hasn’t caught on as widely in the consumer market—web traffic data from April 2025 shows it attracted just 2% of the traffic ChatGPT received, according to analytics firm Similarweb. But in terms of enterprise use, especially where coding support is needed, Claude is gaining ground fast.

Meanwhile, OpenAI projects its total revenue will hit $12 billion by the end of 2025, up from $3.7 billion last year. However, that figure represents actual revenue rather than the “annualized” revenue metric Anthropic is using, making direct comparisons somewhat difficult.

The Business of Enterprise AI

Anthropic’s focus on enterprise AI is clearly paying off. More and more companies are moving beyond pilot programs and starting to embed AI tools into their core workflows. From generating code to analyzing documents and optimizing operations, generative AI is no longer just a futuristic concept—it’s becoming a foundational part of how businesses operate.

Even as Anthropic scales, it remains an underdog when it comes to consumer visibility. But in the boardroom, it’s making a different kind of impact. Organizations that want smart, task-oriented AI tools are turning to Claude, even if it doesn’t trend on social media the way ChatGPT does.

Big Funding, Bigger Ambitions

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI employees who had differing views on the direction of AI development. Since then, the company has attracted billions in funding—most recently raising $3.5 billion earlier this year. That latest round valued the startup at $61.4 billion. For comparison, OpenAI is currently estimated to be worth around $300 billion.

That gap may seem wide, but Anthropic’s momentum suggests it’s on a serious upward trajectory. The company’s enterprise-first strategy, combined with strong backing from tech giants and a reputation for high-performing models, makes it a formidable force in the AI sector.

Kia EV5 Charges into the UK Market with Sleek Looks, Smart Tech, and Up to 329 Miles of Range

Kia’s EV portfolio continues to expand, and the EV5 is the newest entrant to join the electric SUV party in the UK. Nestled between the compact EV4 and the more performance-oriented EV6, the EV5 is designed to hit the sweet spot for families and city dwellers alike. With a striking exterior, sustainable interior materials, and solid electric performance, the EV5 aims to be more than just a placeholder in the brand’s electric journey. The EV5 will launch in the UK with one battery option: an 81.4kWh pack, delivering up to 329 miles of WLTP-certified range in the base 'Baseline' model and up to 313 miles in the mid-tier 'GT-Line' variant. Both versions are front-wheel-drive only. Powertrain and Charging Capabilities While Kia is keeping things simple (for now) with a single battery option, the EV5 doesn’t skimp on performance. The models revealed so far are FWD and optimized for efficiency. Power figures haven’t been fully disclosed yet, but expect punchy acceleration and smooth handling typical of the brand's electric models. What makes the EV5 especially practical for UK drivers is its 400V electrical architecture, which allows DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes – or roughly the time it takes to watch an episode of The Office. Plug it into a 150kW charger and you're good to go in no time. Kia’s intelligent i-Pedal regenerative braking system also helps drivers maximize range with one-pedal driving, ideal for stop-start urban environments. Design: Sharp, Bold, and Boxy True to modern EV styling, the EV5 takes a bold leap forward with sharp lines, squared shoulders, and futuristic lighting signatures. The SUV embraces a boxier, more upright stance – a departure from the sleeker coupe-like profile of the EV6 – lending it a rugged, practical look that’s both urban- and adventure-ready. Expect a variety of vibrant colour options and distinctive alloy wheels across the trims, making this a head-turner on UK streets. Inside: Sustainable Luxury Meets Everyday Practicality Step inside the EV5 and you’re greeted by an airy, tech-focused cabin designed with both comfort and sustainability in mind. A seamless panoramic display stretches across the dash, combining the infotainment and instrument cluster into one fluid unit. There’s also generous cabin space, enhanced by clever packaging and flat-floor architecture. Kia has used eco-friendly materials throughout the cabin, including recycled fabrics and plant-based leathers. Add in massage seats, ambient lighting, and more storage than your average Zone 1 London flat, and you’ve got a space designed to both relax and impress. The Upcoming GT Variant While the Baseline and GT-Line trims are confirmed, Kia has teased a third, range-topping EV5 GT variant. This high-performance edition will feature all-wheel drive and a sportier character, but beyond that, details remain scarce. Expect it to arrive with beefed-up power figures, likely mirroring the punchy GT performance we’ve seen in the EV6 GT. Final Thoughts The Kia EV5 is shaping up to be a well-rounded electric SUV that offers strong range, thoughtful design, and innovative tech. With prices yet to be confirmed and the GT variant still under wraps, there's more to come – but based on what we’ve seen, the EV5 is a compelling new option for anyone looking to go electric in 2025. Keep an eye on Kia’s UK site for updates and bookings later this year.
