Apple aims to bring AI features to the Vision Pro headset to enhance user productivity. Apple is set to introduce significant updates to its Vision Pro headset, aiming to enhance user experience and competitiveness in the mixed-reality market. According to Bloomberg News, the tech giant will add a new feature called “Apple Intelligence,” along with a guest user mode and a spatial content app. These features are expected to be part of the visionOS 2.4 update, which could be available in beta for developers as early as this week. The full release is anticipated in April.

The Vision Pro’s Apple Intelligence suite will offer advanced tools, including Writing Tools, Genmojis, and the Image Playground app. These features are already available on compatible iPhones, iPads, and Mac devices. The Vision Pro’s powerful M2 chipset and 16GB of RAM will enable seamless on-device processing, ensuring a smooth user experience.

Enhanced User Experience with Guest Mode and Spatial Content App

The update will also introduce a new guest user mode, allowing multiple users to access the headset without needing the primary owner’s credentials. This feature is expected to make the Vision Pro more versatile and user-friendly. The spatial content app will also provide a centralized platform for browsing and watching spatial content, enhancing the immersive experience.

Apple’s push to incorporate artificial intelligence comes as part of its strategy to stay ahead of competitors. The update is seen as a response to Google’s recent announcement of Gemini AI integration for its Android XR operating system. Apple is also in talks with Tencent and ByteDance to integrate their AI models into iPhones sold in China.

Struggles and Opportunities for Vision Pro

Despite initial excitement, Vision Pro sales have declined due to its high price of $3,499 and competition from more affordable alternatives, such as Meta’s Quest series. Reports indicate that only 370,000 units were sold by the end of the third quarter in 2024, leading Apple to cut production from 2,000 to 1,000 units per day. By introducing AI-driven features, Apple aims to increase the device’s value and expand its user base.

According to Grand View Research, the mixed-reality market is expected to grow significantly, reaching $5.87 billion by 2025 and $38.08 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 45.34%. In terms of stock performance, AAPL has a Moderate Buy consensus on Wall Street. Its average price target is $250.95, reflecting a 2.60% upside potential. Apple shares have gained 35.35% year-to-date.

To stay competitive, Apple aims to bring AI features that rival Google’s Gemini AI. Apple’s planned updates for the Vision Pro reflect its commitment to enhancing user experience through artificial intelligence and maintaining its competitive edge in the rapidly growing mixed-reality market. By addressing user demands and leveraging advanced AI capabilities, Apple is positioning the Vision Pro as a more versatile and appealing product.

Balancing Innovation with High Costs

As part of its growth strategy, Apple aims to bring AI features to attract more users. The Vision Pro’s price of $3,499 is a significant barrier for many consumers. Despite advanced features like the M2 chipset and 16GB of RAM, the high cost limits its accessibility compared to cheaper alternatives like Meta’s Quest series. Apple aims to justify the price by offering AI-driven tools such as Writing Tools, Genmojis, and the Image Playground app. However, these features are already available on other Apple devices, which may reduce the incentive for consumers to invest in the headset.
