As the calendar turns to September, the buzz about Apple’s iPhone 16 series grows stronger. According to the most recent reports, Apple will debut its highly anticipated iPhone 16 lineup around September 10, which is consistent with previous releases.

While Apple has yet to officially confirm the specs, leaks and insider reports provide a better image of what to expect from the next-generation smartphone. From design changes to improved internals, here’s all you need to know about the iPhone 16 series.

Apple is known for its precise design language, and with the iPhone 16, the company appears to be combining nostalgia and innovation. According to reports, the iPhone 16 will have a vertical camera configuration similar to the iPhone X and the iPhone 12. This represents a departure from the diagonal arrangement that has grown common in recent years.

The vertical alignment is more than simply a cosmetic option; it’s thought to play an important part in improving the device’s capacity to capture spatial video, a capability that could revolutionize AR and VR experiences.

Another noticeable design change is the potential inclusion of an Action Button on normal iPhone 16 models, which was previously limited to the iPhone 15 Pro series. The Action Button might replace the usual mute switch and provide customisable features such as rapid camera access or app start. A speculated new ‘Capture’ button may make video recording more easy by allowing users to start filming, zoom in, or alter focus with a single push.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a prominent analyst, thinks that the iPhone 16 will be offered in five colors: black, green, pink, blue and white. This hints that Apple may be discontinuing the blue and yellow variations found in the iPhone 15 series, in favor of a more streamlined palette in 2024.

Processor: Powering Up with the A18 Chipset

The iPhone 16 series is expected to include Apple’s latest A18 processor. This new silicon is supposed to be a powerhouse, capable of performing complex AI tasks straight on device. The A18 chipset is believed to be standard across all iPhone 16 models, ensuring that even the entry-level variations deliver exceptional performance.

However, there may be some differences when it comes to graphics processing. According to reports, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will use the same A18 CPU as their Pro counterparts, but GPU performance may differ.

This could imply that the Pro models will have higher gameplay and graphics capabilities, making them a better option for hardcore users and mobile gamers.

In addition to the updated chipset, the iPhone 16 series is expected to see a major increase in RAM, with base versions sporting 8GB vs 6GB in the iPhone 15. This boost in memory should result in smoother multitasking and better overall performance, particularly for demanding apps and tasks.

Display: Same Size, New Technology

Apple appears to be sticking to its tried-and-true display sizes for the iPhone 16 series. The basic iPhone 16 is believed to have a 6.1-inch OLED display, while the iPhone 16 Plus will most likely have a larger 6.7-inch screen. Both versions are expected to retain the 60Hz refresh rate seen in earlier iterations, which may disappoint those customers expecting for a more seamless 120Hz experience across the board.

Nonetheless, Apple is reportedly making some behind-the-scenes changes to improve the visual experience. One such enhancement could be the introduction of micro-lens technology, which is intended to increase brightness while reducing power usage. This means that, although with the same refresh rate, the iPhone 16’s display may provide better vision in high light and have a longer battery life.

Another rumored feature is the adoption of Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology to reduce the bezels around the display. While it’s unknown whether this functionality will make its way to normal iPhone 16 models, it could help the smartphones provide a more immersive viewing experience.

When it comes to pricing, Apple appears to be playing it safe. The iPhone 16 series is projected to come at prices comparable to the iPhone 15, with the base model starting around $800. This pricing strategy makes sense since it helps Apple to keep its position in the competitive premium smartphone market while also providing incremental enhancements to justify the price.

Of course, like with any Apple launch, regional pricing may differ, and Indian customers can expect the iPhone 16 to be available soon after its global debut. Given Apple’s increasing focus on the Indian market, it’s not surprising to see some country-specific promos or freebies to entice early adopters.
