Apple released the first version of Apple Intelligence with enhanced Siri capabilities. Apple has released the developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, introducing its first set of artificial intelligence features under the banner “Apple Intelligence.” The suite includes an enhanced Siri with a new design, smart reply and email summaries in the Mail app, and natural language search capabilities in Photos. Notably, these AI features will not be available in the European Union and China, according to the company.

Apple plans to expand its AI features gradually. While the initial release includes several new capabilities, a more comprehensive overhaul of Siri’s AI functionalities is expected to continue into 2025. Users will need an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max or a device with Apple Silicon chips, such as recent iPads and Macs, to access these features.

AI Features First Announced at Developers Conference

As Apple released the first version of Apple Intelligence, users can experience smart replies and email summaries in the Mail app. The Apple Intelligence suite was initially unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The public iOS 18 beta, released on July 15, included these features. Apple typically does not release betas for follow-up updates before the official launch of the initial version, but this time it has done so to address potential bugs ahead of a broader release.

Developers testing iOS 18.1 can choose to enable the new Apple Intelligence features or continue with the standard developer beta track. These features are also available in the iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer betas for devices equipped with M1 Apple silicon chips or newer. This early access allows developers to test and provide feedback on the new functionalities before they become widely available.

How To Install iOS 18.1 Beta?

To install the iOS 18.1 beta, users must first upgrade their devices to iOS 18 beta and register on a waitlist through the Settings app. After the beta upgrade, it is recommended to back up the device to prepare for potential downgrades. The new Apple Intelligence & Siri settings can be accessed under the Accessibility menu.

Alongside the developer betas, Apple has rolled out the second public beta for iOS 18. This version introduces new features like RCS support for more carriers, new CarPlay wallpapers, and the option to use dark mode widgets in light mode. Users interested in trying the beta can join a waitlist via the Settings app and will be notified when access is granted.

Exciting Features!

The iOS 18.1 beta introduces several new features, including writing tools that allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text in various apps like Mail, Notes, and Pages. The Mail app now includes a Smart Reply option for quick responses. Siri has been updated with a new interface featuring glowing lights around the device edges and the ability to switch between text and voice interactions. The Reduce Interruption feature highlights critical notifications, such as urgent messages.

Apple released the first version of Apple Intelligence, introducing natural language search in the Photos app. The Photos app benefits from natural language search, allowing users to find images more easily. Although these features are exciting, it’s important to note that they won’t be available in the European Union and China.

This initial beta phase of Apple Intelligence does not include some anticipated features like image generation, Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and priority notifications. Apple’s introduction of the “Apple Intelligence” suite in its latest developer betas marks a significant step in incorporating artificial intelligence into its products. The initial release includes enhanced features like a redesigned Siri, which now offers both text and voice interaction options. Users can also enjoy new smart reply options and email summaries in the Mail app, making communication more efficient.
