New 6.7L V8 Could Expand Corvette C8 Lineup

TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 already boasts one of the most diverse performance lineups in its history, but fresh evidence suggests General Motors may not be done yet. A newly surfaced GM parts book entry hints at the arrival of another V-8 engine, potentially opening the door for a new variant that could sit neatly between today’s models.

If this turns out to be real, the C8 story may be far from finished.

The Current C8 Engine Landscape

Right now, the C8 Corvette offers three distinct powerplants, each targeting a different kind of driver. The standard Stingray and hybrid E-Ray rely on the 6.2-liter LT2 cross-plane V-8, delivering a healthy 495 horsepower in base form. Step up to the Z06 and you get the high-revving 5.5-liter LT6 flat-plane V-8, an engine engineered for track dominance.

At the top of the food chain sit the ZR1 and ZR1X, powered by the turbocharged LT7 derived from the LT6. With output reportedly reaching as high as 1,250 horsepower, these models redefine what a Corvette can be.

That spread already covers a massive performance range. Yet, GM may be preparing to fill a very specific gap.

The LS6 Name Returns, With a Twist

According to a report surfaced by Corvette Blogger, a GM parts book listing references a new V-8 engine labeled “LS6.” Unlike past speculation or concept placeholders, this engine reportedly appears under regular production orders, not tied to a future or experimental model.

The listing points to a 6.7-liter displacement, making it part of GM’s sixth-generation small-block family. That engine family has long been rumored to include several sizes, including 5.7 and 6.6 liters. The 6.7-liter figure suggests GM may have finalized its plans and adjusted displacement for the C8 platform specifically.

Importantly, this same parts system previously revealed the LT7 before Chevrolet officially announced it, giving this new discovery added credibility.

Could This Mean a C8 Grand Sport?

The most intriguing part of the rumor is what this engine could represent. Corvette Blogger speculates that a 6.7-liter LS6 could power a revived Grand Sport model for the C8 generation.

Historically, the Grand Sport badge has stood for balance. In the C6 and C7 eras, it delivered wide-body aggression, track-ready hardware, and serious performance without venturing into the extreme horsepower territory of the Z06. For many enthusiasts, it was the sweet spot.

A mid-engined C8 Grand Sport with a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter V-8 would fit that philosophy perfectly.

Why This Would Make Sense for Chevrolet

Adding a Grand Sport would give Chevrolet a compelling option between the Stingray/E-Ray and the Z06. It would also appeal to drivers who want visceral V-8 performance and track capability without the cost, complexity, or intensity of forced induction or ultra-high revving engines.

For now, GM remains silent. But if the LS6 rumor proves true, the Corvette C8 lineup could soon become even more complete and even more tempting.
