DHL Group, one of the world’s largest logistics companies, has announced a €1 billion (₹9,000 crore) investment plan across its India operations by 2030, a powerful signal of faith in the country’s growth trajectory. The multi-year commitment will cut across key sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, new energy, e-commerce, and digitalisation, underscoring DHL’s intent to anchor itself deeply in the Indian logistics landscape.

As part of this plan, DHL will set up a Health Logistics Hub in Bhiwandi, an automatic sorting centre in Delhi, and an Electric Vehicle (EV) and Battery Logistics Centre of Excellence (COE) in Chennai and Mumbai. It will also establish India’s largest low-emission integrated facilities for its subsidiary Blue Dart in Bijwasan and Haryana.

“Global trade is facing headwinds, but we remain confident in India’s dynamic market,” said Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group. “With our investment program of around €1 billion, we are expanding reliable and sustainable logistics solutions for our customers in India.”

India at the Heart of DHL’s Strategy 2030

India’s growing global trade footprint and its diversification strategy form the foundation of DHL’s confidence. The company’s Global Connectedness Tracker (GCT) found that even amid global uncertainties, India’s exports — both goods and services — grew over 6% between April and August 2025.

As per the GCT, the average distance of goods traded from India rose to 6,190 km in 2025, reflecting India’s expanding reach to over 24 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

“India’s trade diversification strategy is paying off,” said R.S. Subramanian, SVP – South Asia and Managing Director, DHL Express India. “As supply chains evolve to become more resilient, they also grow more complex. DHL’s digital tools like MyGTS help simplify these challenges and keep businesses moving forward.”

Strengthening India’s Life Sciences and Healthcare Network

India is already a global powerhouse in pharmaceutical manufacturing and vaccine production, and DHL plans to deepen its role in this high-growth sector.

“Our DHL Health Logistics Excellence Centre in Mumbai adds to a network of 30+ cold chain facilities in India,” said Vikas Anand, Managing Director, DHL Supply Chain India. The new 150,000 sq. ft. facility in Bhiwandi will enhance solutions for life sciences and healthcare clients — offering temperature-controlled warehouses, end-to-end tracking through Life Track systems, and direct-to-patient delivery models.

Anand added that DHL’s strategy aligns with India’s policy momentum — including the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and the National Medical Devices Policy, which are driving billions in sectoral investment.

Powering India’s Green and Electric Future

In sync with India’s clean energy transition, DHL will establish an EV and Battery Logistics Centre of Excellence (COE) by Q4 2025 in Chennai, followed by a second hub in Mumbai in 2026.

“Our focus on new energy aligns with India’s ambition for clean energy and electrification,” said Edwin Pinto, Managing Director, DHL Global Forwarding India. “We are looking at eight key segments — wind, solar, EVs, batteries, storage systems, charging infrastructure, alternative fuels, and hydrogen.”

India’s push to make 30% of private cars and 80% of two- and three-wheelers electric by 2030 translates to over 80 million EVs — and DHL aims to be a key logistics partner in that journey.

Enabling India’s E-commerce Revolution

With India’s e-commerce market projected to touch $345 billion by 2030, DHL and Blue Dart are positioning themselves at the core of this boom.

“At Blue Dart, our investment will focus on automation, advanced technologies, and nationwide delivery expansion,” said Balfour Manuel, Managing Director, Blue Dart. “This investment comes at a defining moment, enabling us to serve rising Tier II and III demand with unmatched reliability.”

From time-definite deliveries and returns management to digital fulfilment networks, DHL aims to build infrastructure that supports India’s online retail surge.

Building a Greener Supply Chain

Sustainability is another major pillar of DHL’s Strategy 2030. The company aims to reduce CO₂ emissions to 29 million metric tons by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

In India, the company is already deploying over 700 electric vehicles and operating low-emission facilities like Blue Dart’s Bijwasan hub in Delhi, which features 600 kWp of rooftop solar capacity.

Conclusion: DHL’s Long-Term Bet on India’s Future

From cold-chain healthcare logistics to EV battery hubs and digital e-commerce networks, DHL’s €1 billion plan represents more than just infrastructure—it’s a long-term bet on India’s evolution into a global logistics powerhouse.

As India races toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy, DHL’s deep-rooted expansion will likely play a crucial role in making the country’s supply chains greener, smarter, and more globally connected.
