Volvo takes a big step forward toward an electric future with the release of the 2025 Volvo EX90. After many leaks, the new Volvo flagship electric vehicle has finally made its appearance. In case you haven’t been following along, the EX90 is a two-motor electric SUV with a floor-spanning lithium-ion battery that has a stated range of 296 to 308 miles and can store up to 107.0 kWh of useable energy. Most of the time, though, it is a Volvo.
When viewed from the back three-quarter perspective, the new EX90 bears a striking resemblance to the updated Volvo XC90. Though it is 1.6 inches larger and extends 3.3 inches longer, it still uses the same 117.5-inch wheelbase. When you look at the front, however, the difference between the two is apparent: The EX90 has no grille opening between the Thor’s-hammer headlights. Oh, and there’s the not-small matter of the subtle bulge above the windshield, which houses a lidar sensor.
Volvo EX90 Debuts with Scandinavian-Inspired Interior and Advanced Tech Features
Though drastically different from the XC90 inside, the EX90 nonetheless has a very Volvo-like appearance. The little screen in front of the driver is fixed to the steering column, where the steering wheel adjustment allows it to move. The main screen is sized at 14.5 inches and has a portrait orientation. In addition to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it is powered by Google.
The EX90’s interior is a testament to Volvo’s Scandinavian design philosophy, featuring clean lines, premium materials, and a focus on comfort and functionality. The spacious cabin offers ample legroom and headroom for all passengers, while the second-row seats can be configured to accommodate either two or three passengers. The third row is best suited for children or smaller adults due to its limited space.
Volvo EX90: A Tech-Driven Luxury SUV with Advanced Safety Features and LiDAR Technology
Technology plays a crucial role in the EX90, with a host of advanced features designed to enhance the driving experience and ensure safety. The SUV comes equipped with Volvo’s latest infotainment system, which includes a large touchscreen display, voice control, and wireless smartphone connectivity. The EX90 also features a suite of driver-assistance technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
One of the most notable features of the EX90 is its advanced safety systems. The SUV is equipped with LiDAR technology, which uses light to create a 3D map of its surroundings and detect potential hazards. This enables the EX90 to autonomously brake and swerve to avoid collisions, even in low-light conditions. Volvo has also introduced a new safety feature called “Cabin Watch,” which uses cameras to monitor the interior of the vehicle and alert the driver if a child or pet is left unattended.
The EX90 is expected to go on sale in the United States in early 2025, with pricing starting at around $85,000. Volvo has not yet announced the availability of the EX90 in other markets. With its combination of luxury, performance, and sustainability, the EX90 is poised to become a strong contender in the growing electric SUV segment.
