Elon Musk Can’t Escape the Grip of Anime AI Slop
TwitterWhatsappLinkedin

Elon Musk has found himself at the center of another online controversy, but this time it’s not about politics or Twitter drama. The world’s richest man has been heavily promoting his xAI chatbot Grok by showcasing its ability to generate sexualized anime characters and adult content, raising eyebrows across social media platforms.

Since stepping back from Washington politics following his fallout with Donald Trump, Musk has redirected his attention to his business ventures, particularly pushing Grok as a superior alternative to ChatGPT.

However, his marketing approach has taken an unexpected turn toward adult entertainment.

Grok AI of Elon Musk and the Controversy Over “Ani”

Central to Musk’s promotional strategy is “Ani,” a scantily clad anime companion built into Grok that users can interact with through flirtatious conversations.

The character is designed to respond with increasingly intimate replies and can even undress on command. Elon Musk has been regularly posting about Ani on his X account, often sharing animations and celebrating new “outfits” added to her digital wardrobe.

Recent posts from Musk include reposts of Grok-generated animations featuring topless women adorned with blinking stars and galaxies, as well as “stunning Colombian women” in revealing tribal outfits standing next to robotic dinosaurs.

He’s also shared AI-generated music videos featuring anime-style characters in skintight spacesuits, enthusiastically commenting “Wow” and noting this was just the beta version of Grok’s capabilities.

The billionaire’s focus on adult content has not been lost on his audience, however, who have commented on his posts using words like frustration and dismay. Some have gone so far as to jokingly refer to Grok as a “masturbation aid,” while others have more serious concerns about the social impact of such content.

The indignation reached its peak when Musk shared an animation of Ani dancing in lingerie, which even his right-wing supporters considered unacceptable.

His supporters informed him that it was “time to step back” and criticized the character for appearing like a “13-year-old in lingerie.” The huge indignation prompted Musk to remove the offending tweet, although he continued to interact with similar tweets.

One frustrated user captured the sentiment perfectly, writing: “BRO STOP GOONING TO AI ANIME AND TAKE US TO MARS,” referring to internet slang for excessive self-pleasure sessions and Musk’s promises about space exploration.

How Grok’s Content Strategy is Shaking Up the Industry

While Musk promotes Grok’s adult content capabilities, xAI has been taking legal action to compete in the broader AI market. The company recently sued Apple and OpenAI, alleging an anticompetitive scheme to suppress Grok in the App Store while favoring ChatGPT through Apple’s partnership with OpenAI.

Musk continues making ambitious claims about Grok’s technical capabilities, stating that the current version might “discover new technologies” by the end of 2025 and calling it “the smartest AI in the world.” However, industry data suggests otherwise, and there have been no reports of breakthrough discoveries.

Some Tesla and SpaceX enthusiasts have begun catering to Musk’s apparent preferences, using anime pin-up formats to ask technical questions about his companies.

The question remains whether Musk’s emphasis on Grok’s erotic capabilities will help it compete with established AI chatbots like ChatGPT or simply appeal to a narrow demographic while alienating mainstream users. Critics worry that this approach could damage both Grok’s reputation and Musk’s credibility as a tech innovator.

As Musk continues promoting these features with increasing boldness, industry observers predict the content may become even more explicit. Whether this unconventional marketing strategy will prove successful or backfire remains to be seen, but it certainly has people talking about Grok  for better or worse.
